Often times, after the sun goes down and the air becomes still, one might be able to hear the sounds of a train off in the distant, making its way through the darkness to its destination, wherever it might be. Many railroad photographers, such as the great O. Winston Link, spent their nights under the stars with cameras and flashes along the tracksides, watching and listening for their subjects to appear out of the darkness. Taking a bit of inspiration from OWL, I decided to spend some of my nights trackside as well. With that in mind, I compiled a collection of my personal favorite nighttime scenes of steam locomotives from the past three years into this video. From the quiet rural countrysides to the ever-busy commuter platforms, steam locomotives storm through the night on their way to their destinations, wherever they might be.
