Here is a single cylinder double acting steam engine 25 HP connected to 15 KVA alternator by pulleys and V belts. Steam is produced in the boiler. BUCKEYE type governor (yellow color) is also mounted. This steam power plant is suitable for rural electrification or for running a factory as a impendent power.

@@user-zx7tg4ph5r I don't think it would be too hard to convert to steam. The ones I've seen on other small engines that had been modified use the spark plug hole as a steam inlet, rather than where the carb used to be

@@pugman205 bro spark plugs are used in petrol engine not diesel one. Secondly the two brass know he opened to start the engine was the top dead center and bottom dead center so it became duel acting engine. Moreover bottom part looks like of lister but if you see closely that yellow thing on right side flywheel is governor. Which is way bigger. So simply you can say it have taken parts from lister but its 90% different thing.

I feel like there needs to be a return line to the boiler, insulation on the vapor lines, a changover from a reciprocating system to a turbine, and a full triangular boiler. Triangles have the largest volume to surface area, but having a flat top increases surface area too much. A full 4-5 sided pyramid would offer simplicity of construction and make it easier to insulate. Ceramoc coatings are amazing for that.

You can’t beat a piston for torque with steam, a turbine requires more pressure and more boiler and therefore more loss. A turbine would be ok in larger power plant type applications where the demand and power are scaled up.
@mariscaljustin3947
@mariscaljustin3947 Жыл бұрын
@@cousinitt7915 You can, just simply by using a reducer at the outpout. "turbine requires more pressure and more boiler and therefore more loss", false if you design it properly. Also, a turbine have a better yield because you have less things in movement during operation (just shaft and some bearings) and the expansion of steam is way more significant than in a reciprocating engine even in a triple expansion one. The one in the video is fairly primitive because he only have a high pressure cylinder and the exhaust steam is simply wasted in environnement also, nothing is insulated. It's just a good for demonstration was but not for real operation.

Starting from the boiler you should consider Insulating the lines and then working forward aim for a higher stream pressure which should then be condensed back to the feeder boiler. I'd also like to see a bigger flywheel and some method of adjusting to torque on the electric generator. Its a good effort for what you have available but not the best homemade steam generator out there

It may shock you to learn this but water boils at 30c in a vacuum and returns to liquid at 29c the expansion rates are the same no matter how the water boils. This means in a closed system you can run a steam engine off heat from the sun and endothermic from water sources you could even run an air conditioner use the heat to boil water and the cold to return it to liquid.
