All aboard! Come along for Steam Trains Galore Part 2! We will visit a variety of different steam railroads in the western United States in the states of California, Nevada, and Colorado. As with the first video in the series, a wide variety of steam trains are included in a wide array of climates: everything from tall pine forests and coastal redwoods to high desert and scrub brush. In a similar style the the original Steam Trains Galore, this video features no distracting captions and no narration, only the sounds of the trains and nature. At the end of the video, a full list of the railroads where this video was filmed is included.
Steam Trains Galore 2 is sure to put smiles on the faces of everyone from 1 to 92, so hop aboard for this exciting adventure!
As always, comments are encouraged and appreciated!

I grew up in Fort Bragg, California, and used to see #45 all the time. As a teenager, I was part of the model railroad club that operates a layout in a building right next to the depot, and on weekends I'd bring my model trains and help run the layout. When #45 was running, I'd always go outside when I heard it coming and feel the ground shake as it rolled by, not 20 feet from where I stood. I recent moved a long way away, and this video brings back memories. Man, I miss the Skunk Train.

Brings back very special and unique memories of riding and blaring horns on old steam locomotives. Let me just say these were rare privileged moments from the sixties. To be able to ride with the engineer and coal feeder on these huge, power monsters as a kid in his preteens, my most thrilling moment had to be when I could blast the loud horn by pulling the string (rope) overhead at will. Only when approaching a blind corner, unmanned crossings and the train stations he told me but I just couldn't resist doing it at will. He just laughed at my young mischievousness and the chuckle it brought from me. I still love the sound of the whistle (horn) when one goes by.

We don't live in an area where we have year-round access to steam trains like this, so being able to see it on KZfaq is a treat for him, especially in the cold months when the train museums are closed.

Love all of the videos of the steam locomotives. I'm from a small town in Tennessee and we at one time had a steam train and it was called number 1 of the clinchfield railroad. But when CSX came in here we lost our little steam train. I wish the people and the town would get it back home ☹️☹️😡😡
@Ian-qs3fz
@Ian-qs3fz 2 жыл бұрын
I’m very familiar with Clinchfield’s little number 1 my father told me many stories about her. She was a beautiful little ten-wheeler with a silver smokebox and brass domes and she pulled a B unit behind her which was disguised as a passenger car. She now sits in the B&O museum on display with her cab open to visitors.

One story my dad told me was his first encounter with the little engine. When he was a little boy and he was heading over the bridge to Blacksburg SC he spotted the little engine sitting in the yard and he lost his mind nearly causing his mother to wreck the car. my father has taken me over that bridge and told me exactly what it was like and what his reaction was and it’s always a story that makes me feel like a little kid again.

One of the very best vids I've seen on steam trains! The term "galore" is most appropriate. The variety is astounding : wood- and coal-burning locos (and the appropriate chimney!), 2- and 4-cylinders and geared locos, genuine 4-4-0 American and 4-6-0 ten-wheelers, all types of old cars.. A regal! Thanks CoasterFan!

Mike Campbell Thank you very much, Mike. One of the great things about sites like this is that they allow you to capture and share things, in this case railroads, that will inevitably change in the future. It's nice to make sure that at least the memory or any sort of historical record of these places lives on.

I have not heard anything about Big Boy, except that it might miss the 2019 dead line due to 844 and what is going on with Ed. Thank you for posting this video. Some how you've managed to get all of my favorite steam locomotives on here, and you did a fine job with the camera work as well.

Tim Mack That first series of clips posed a challenge to me. I realized beforehand that the bell would be an issue, but I did not realize the extent. Unfortunately, that railroad is very hard to photograph, so I elected to shoot it on a special photo excursion. But, on the excursion, they rang the bell for every single run past. I tried to break it up with some on board footage, but that only helped so much. Oh well.

This old technique fascinates people all over the world. You can see and hear the power. It's a wonderful noise when the steam " hammers " on the piston. Where on earth can you hear the Doppler effect better than behind a running train, when the horn is blowing. I am from Germany and 65 Years of age. I remember whell, when our science teacher has brought us to a nearby railway station only because of listening to the blowing horn. Up to two or three years ago tourist groups have taken a flight to China for watching the QJ locomotive, Two and three pulled a long iron ore freight train over a mountain, old locomotive on the worlds modernst railway track. This track is not in North America, not in Europe, not in Australia or Japan, it is in China. But the Chinese government is against this tourism now. Its propaganda dislikes the " anachronism" of old technic and high tech. I have a question you may answer. The Baldwin steam locomotives have had a serioius chimney, that have looked a little bit like an inverse blast furnace. What was the advantage of this chimney? Thank you for sharing this wonderful video. I have enjoyed it from the first to the last second. Sorry for my not proper English, but it is 50 years ago that I have learned this language. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video. I have enjoyed it from the first to the last second. Greetings from Germany across the "Big Pond" Paul
