Chalmers didn't realize it, but by cutting his departure short he escaped Skinner's final lie to his mother, which he otherwise could have done nothing about. Also, imagine him on the third loop, thinking he had broken the cycle by stopping Skinner from lying, only to realize his luncheon was only just beginning.

+Marun Alister the time loop probably starts the instant he rings the bell, at that point he can't stop it from happening again. Presumably because Skinner might lie about something as he attempts to leave and reset the loop

@ uh, this holds spoilers for higurashi, i guess. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . short answer: higurashi has time loop shit long answer that i wrote before figuring out i can just say "higurashi has time loop shit": i don't know if that actually makes it so you have to click read more, lol. basically, higurashis a murder mystery show that's split up into 3-4 episode arcs. each arc, the main character (along with a bunch of side characters) end up dying due to the "cursed nature" of the cult-like town. and, at the end of each arc, time turns back to before the events of the murder, so this one character has to basically, over the course of years, solve their own murder (made harder due to each timeline being either slightly or drastically different)
