Using the SteamVR Performance Test tool on Steam to see whether my PC is compatible for VR Gaming using the HTC Vive. Good indicator tool also for those wondering about Oculus Rift, who have released their own software for testing if your machines are compatible. Probably one of the coolest benchmarking tools to watch.
The software is supplied by Steam and can be found at store.steampowered.com/app/323...
My gaming rig (Feb 2016):
EVGA GTX 970 ACX 2.0 4GB (Though technically we all know it's really 3.5GB)
Intel i7 3770k at default clock speeds of 3.5Ghz
32GB 1600Mhz Ram
Asus P8Z77-v Motherboard
256GB + 120GB SSD, 2TB HDD
750W 80+ Gold Power supply
Full HD 23" IPS Monitor
So it looks like my gaming rig just passed into the 'Ready' section of the test, throughout the test I was averaging above 120 frames per second which is top notch for VR. They do recommend that the lowest the fps is allowed to reach is 90 for a seamless experience of VR, so I do seem to be quite ahead but this was only whilst rendering Portal 2. I'm sure though that upcoming VR titles will require more juice, so I'm just waiting for prices of the GTX 970 to come down, which they haven't budged for over a year now, to then SLI my system and also upgrade to either UltraWide 1440p or 4k.
Best of luck with your own tests.
