These tools have been super easy to use. The level of thoroughness here has been making my title very stable, very quickly, and I'm having a ton of fun developing with steam.

When I click 'See release steps' as per 5:42 I do not get an option to release but I get the standard 'review store presence' and 'review game build' options which would take days to review. Surely this cant be right? Why would a playtest need to be manually reviewed?

I assume Steam sort of slapped this feature on because the pages are almost identical and just didn't get to update all of the pages which still has the same hooks.

How do I find games that need to be playtested?

Are there plans to support A/B testing or testing multiple versions of a game with this feature?

It's advertised as simple, stress-free way of testing but having to set up store graphics and build settings and build for different depot and then again wait for review process of identical store page and having to wait for review process of build is extremely stressful.

My biggest issue with this is that playtests are assigned at random. That sort of defeats the purpose of playtesting. If some random guy signs up for a playtest, how exactly am I supposed to observe the playtest, or even gather data from it? I feel like I must be missing something

You can request keys for your Steam Playtest too. So you can select the players precisely.

It seems this feature can be used as a "Demo" to give free sample of the game to attract customer and entice them to wishlist or buy the main game. Am I right?

What if its your first game and you want to test the game works good with steam multiplayer functions, Can the play testing be done before requesting storefront approval?

I guess if you use playtest keys and sent them to specific users if you want a real private test

@@TheNonfaktor If I want to give a key to a friend does he get the game forever? I would like to give it to some friends, but they want to support me on launch. Does that mean that I need to use this feature?

I'm having some problems with matchmaing System, can't find anyone with an open server and it's only possible to enter the server by using "JoinGame" by Steam Overlay. I don't know if the error is on my part or steam, but I already checked everything I've done.

Does the playtest button always show up on the store page or can I use the playtest to just test things like achievements and stuff? Like do I need to let players see the playtest part?

Does the playtest candidates get notified when they are granted playtest access? And will they give feedback via game's forum? Can they act as if their accounts never received the playtest access, and say nothing about their testing experiences?

You say that we can use Steam Keys for the playtest, but then you completely skip the part where you show us how to request keys. You guys might want to update this video to show how it's done because I've been back and forth with support a few times and the entire process is completely unintuitive.

Why do playtests need to be reviewed manually? That defeats the purpose of the TEST part. I want people to be able to play my game immediately and give me feedback.

Neat idea, but I don't see why developers would use this when they have the option of selling their game in 'early access'. Early Access has: Cash up front to the developer, people already have a lower expectation because 'early access' which lends to more forgiveness for bugs/stability issues, and with Steam's refund policy of two hours/14 days so long as the developer makes a good hook people won't refund. This system: Doesn't give cash to the developer, people would have a higher expectation due to it being a 'beta right before release' phase, and since no money was exchanged the user won't get hours tied to their account making for a full refund easier for the final release. If early access titles were forbidden from being sold, then this feature would be very useful. As it stands it punishes developers for using it over early access.

Early Access still has potential for negative reviews and such. Playtest is not considered something that is ready for such things. You likely can do it private as well so you can have playtesters trying out things before you go public in any way that then might get reviewed. Early Access still would have it's place. I'd suspect Playtest would be useful before you are ready to make certain you have eliminated some issues before opening Early Access.

@@futurewavecs I concede to your point that if the developer uses playtest and then proceeds to use early access, it would be useful for finding out stability issues and user setups. However the video made it out to be used right before a release at 12:10. Then they talk about early access at 13:13. Perhaps I'm confusing their use of the word 'release' to a meaning of 'early access or full release' versus my 'full release only' as I've come to know it. In either case, thank you for pointing it out. Using this feature in conjunction with early access makes it a lot better and shifts it back into the advantage of the developer to use.
