@@kileyrowe8091 purely political, they do it with everything because they want to act as if it's always been accepted but truth is that even the so called ok to be gay greeks by all sources considered man on man sexual relations to be debauchery, pederasty was common but both greeks and especially romans looked at it with argus eyes, in fact ceasar laughed away and even confirmed many alegations of him sleeping around (for roman elites this was considdered shamefull) but one thing he opposed hard is the accusation that he had engaged passive xxx (receiving) with a former mentor. greeks themselves depicted sexual acts like this on vases but those showed saters, pretty much the creatures known for being debaucherous fiends, meaning these were meant as insult not as much else (homosexuallity wasn't a concept prior to the modern age btw, hence why i have not used the term, they didn't classify people on sexuality, in the medieval period they spoke of sodomy but this also included anal xxx or oral xxx or any act of it that was considdered to not serve reproduction, and truth be told none of the above actively persecuted people for it, the romans did once hunt down an xxx cult over reports of doing it with children of both sexes but even so when people were procecuted over sexual acts it was usually in times of crisis that couldn't be explained easily and usually in wartorn or suffering regions persecution only started in ernest in the modern age, enlightenment, people who were not "normal" have to "cured" so they invented ways to try to do so, like electroshock therapy, here the term homosexuality emerges, now the sexuality becomes a group identity

@@Dave-te5bs On the show it's pretty open-ended about his orientation. He definitely loves Stede and slept with Calico Jack, so there's that, but he also has that line about being "massaged to death by mermaids," so I think bi is a fair interpretation, if not set in stone. Stede is definitely meant to be gay, though. IRL though? There's literally no way to know, and in any case the number of alleged wives is so comically large that it could loop back around to "I have a girlfriend in Canada" territory.

@@teogonzalez7957 I've done editing and animation in the past for school work. I know how long it takes to make these kind of videos. But that does not mean they didn't get the idea from IH or Count Dankcula. What is the most time consuming is the fact they would have to do research and condense it into the 20 minute informative format that this channel is known for. While they would have gotten around to Stede eventually, he clearly got priority. Not hating, but to call this a "coincidence" is bollocks.

It was said in his journal that he began to become obsessed with pirates. Blackbeard and a far previous pirate named Henry Every. Make another one of that, people would love stede bonnets journal. I watched a documentary about it. Its boring at first, but then it gets good. However, if anyone has watched "Our flag means death" and its a show about him. Everything is accurate, but there are some speculations of other things. But one part of that show is inaccurate and that's towards the end. The government at the time did not use a shooting squad to kill Bonnet and his crew, they were hung. So yeah. A d this guy basically clarified that last part.

Great job on Bonnet. A couple of points for accuracy: Gov. Eden was in Bath, N.C., not Bath, England; Blackbeard was believed to have frequented Topsail Island, but the QAR was run aground at what was then Topsail Inlet at Beaufort.

@@DinomotoMennovi technically Sir Francis Drake was a pirate in the eyes of everyone except the British. He's not exactly a bad choice for a role model. Neither is Henry Avery, who took the largest score in pirate history, escaped, and disappeared from history. In fact, most pirates weren't pillaging, town raiding rapists. The truth of the matter is, pirates were usually privateers who were abandoned by the country they served, and seeking a measure of revenge for the betrayal. While Naval vessels of the time were run like floating dictatorships, pirate vessels generally operated as maritime democracies. Courses, scores, and ports-of-call were chosen by committee, and scores were split fairly according to rank and length of service. Furthermore, pirates weren't in the business of slave trading, unlike the Navies they regularly engaged. Rather, pirates regularly seized slave ships, freed the "cargo", and left the slavers in the hands of their former captives. Any freed slave who wished to join a pirate crew was usually welcomed with open arms, as well. In most cases the stigma surrounding pirates is no more than sensationalist propaganda that was disseminated by the Spanish, English, and Dutch crowns. Pirates were dangerous folk, but they had to be. Pacifism would have meant certain death for any privateer after their commissions were revoked.
