I wish that the parks that have these coasters with the holding brake not working would get them working again because it just adds that extra level of excitement to the ride.

It’s intentionally disabled because it’s bad for the structure

I am pretty sure Dorney Parks still works but they have it turned off due to stress on the track.

Hell yeah! The holding brake EASILY makes this the best of this model, as each launch offers something unique and the bizarre holding-brake moment is one of the most hilarious moments I've ever experienced on a coaster. Never rode Wicked Twister, but there's NO WAY it could have been as good as this one is.

Six Flags Great America is my home park and their version of this impulse coaster, Vertical Velocity, used to have the holding brake. it was so much better with it. i have no idea when they got rid of it but the ride really isn't the same anymore i never got a chance to go on wicked twister but i'm pretty sure it didn't have a holding brake either

@@skippythealien9627it doesn’t work anymore for multiple reasons, first because it’s terrible for the structure and would shake the supports and second because it broke and they never bothered to fix it

@@homeofcoasters ah okay in that case yeah that makes a lot of sense still, Vertical Velocity is so pedestrian without the brake. it's really just a launch and that's about it. i guess you could technically say that about Maxx Force but that one is so much more intense

It has nothing to do with the structure. Steel venom has no more extra supports or anything and its been relocated... yet still uses the break. Six flags is just cheap and notorious for neglecting coasters.@@homeofcoasters

I honestly always preferred these models over wicked twisted any day if they had the holding brake in operation. Such a great ride. So happy there's still one park that has the best feature maintained 🤙❤

Did the park change the motors on Steel Venom? That launching sound doesn’t sound like classic Intamin LIM tho 🤔 (More like modern LSMs)

I believe they changed out the IGBT’s on the ride. Probably from Intrasys

Wait... That sounds more like LSM's. I don't hear the roar of the LIM's like in other videos. Did they switch the launch system?

LIMs and LSMs sound similar, and no they did not!

@@EastCoastersi think they got a more reliable launch this year, They were doing work on the launch for around 4 months It sounds much more like LSM’s now

They did change the system, you can see the fins look different and the launch is pulsed differently

Was that an LSM/LIM hold (reverse) “brake” on the back spike and not a friction brake?

I think it's a similar motor as the ones for the launch, it holds the train magnetically. That's also why it has a similar sound

It broke, and they didn’t want to put the money into it. It’s quite expensive to rebuild and redo

you gotta. its such a fun ride, but the launching part is kinda scary (in my opinion) but its still a very fun ride ot go on
