I’ve used the mtm plastic for years never had problems with it but recently did a video and switched to all metal the videos do show steal lasts longer submerged in water I would recommend both unless you store in a basement that could get flooded

Steel ones are far superior in every way that matters.

The mtm plastic multi-compartment ammo cans are the only plastic ones i will use .. they seal air tight and are durable..

Submerge in your tub, and you will quickly see it’s anything but air tight.

You know I’ve had a box of 30-30 in my drawer for 20 years,, and I’ve had a box of old 16 gauge birdshot for what feels like my whole life,, and they are all still in really good shape,, they are kept inside in my little spare room/work room deal so they never get exposed to the elements or rapid temperature swings … and I swear they look I just bought them within the last year,,,So that goes to show you if you store ammo properly and keep your house comfortable all year round you should be fine with either.., Now that being said I still only buy metal cans and use desiccant packs for all my long term storage.. I do use Plastic 30 cal size boxes for the range and stuff

The plastic lids bend when you pick them up completely full. The weight pulls the top loose from the bottom..

Correct, but thats not really affecting anything at that moment picking it up

Plastic is lighter. Thats the only advantage they have. New buckets with lids work and are cheap. Military cans are the best.

How long have you left ammo in the boxes they came in

Years and years. I just don't have room for them to stay in boxes. I shoot so much and buy so much it's hard to keep them in original boxes

Metal cans are more likely to sweat in cold storage, high humidity, and flooding.

For sure, but if your comfortable, generally your ammo is too.

About 4 years ago I ran across some steel 50 caliber cans on the clearance rack at my local Walmart for $3.00 each…I bought every single one (9 cans)…in the town I live in here in Tennessee we have two Walmarts (one on the North side and one on the South side…about 10 miles apart.) I decided to check out the other one and their clearance sale had the same deal (but only 5 cans) so I bought all they had available. So on that day I bought a lifetime supply for under $50 including tax…they are from China but seem to be of good quality especially for the price 👍…thank you for your channel 👍👍👍

@danh3718 Any container can sweat even plastic so I would not say that metal is more likely to sweat than plastic. That is why we leave ammo in boxes because the cardboard soaks up air moisture in the can or we use desiccant packs. Like him I use plastic cans for temporary storage because we know plastic even the sturdy ones can warp and lose seals and crush and deform where metal cans don't. Long term storage I use metal ammo cans with good seals. I even put a little vegetable oil on the seals so they last longer. Rubberized seals dry out over time and even though petroleum oil is not the best and why I use vegetable oil it is better than no oil.
