I got my Amia about 3 months ago and love it. My old chair was a Sit on It Seating Amplify. It was 5 years old and the vinyl upholstery was ripping. It also developed a wobble in the base. The Amia is rock solid stable. I work from home and I was getting up every 30 minutes on my old chair probably from discomfort. With the Amia I have to force myself to get up every now and then...it is that comfortable.

A dude was liquidating a completely random assortment of office chairs on FB marketplace for $5 each. I noticed one in the back was an Amia and I've never booked it so fast to meet a guy on marketplace. I was so scared some other savvy chair nerd had spotted it and was going to get there first. So glad I got it! I've wanted a nice ergonomic chair for so long but even bottom tier chairs are pretty far outside my budget.

I'm dailying an Amia, I had a hearniated disc and got subsequent surgery. This was one of the few chairs I could actually sit in. I've had experience with the aeron and the mirra 2 and both are great chairs, however, they have their issues. This amia is a refurb, but honestly I could see it lasting for years to come. I was on a Markus for a bit, which I would say it's worth getting a used amia over a markus. No amount of prolonged sitting is healthy, but make sure you do it right.

I bought a refurbished Amia from btod a few month's ago for my wife and we are very impressed. To be honest, you can't tell that it's a refurbished chair at all, which I was very surprised by. Thank you for such a great review as always! I went to our local office re-seller of new, refurbished and used chairs. While I was set on fabric seat+mesh back type of chair, I tried few others like Steelcase Gesture, Leap v1 and leap V2, HON, Herman Miller B and C, titanium, I mean you name it I sat in all - and by far Amia was THE BEST fit... plus, the chair I got was really gently used (as I compared to few other Amias that were there. I don't really like the lumbar in the Amia so I took it out, but then the back was just hollow and very unsupportive. Is the back of the Amia Air as firm as the Amia's back normally is? Because then I wouldn't have to worry about lumbar and not have a hollow chair.

I got this chair back in 2018 when it was considered Steelcase's "budget" offering (I got it fully loaded here in Canada for $750 CAD, base model was like $650; the base model is like $1100 CAD now lol). I remember trying it out and being like "why is this so much cheaper than the Leap/Gesture? It feels great". I'm 6'4", very lanky, and the chair fits me perfectly. Glad to see it getting more love online these days. When I used to recommend it 6 years ago, nobody had heard of it before.

Just ordered a new custom Amia build directly from Steelcase (Cogent-Lipstick/Merlot on black) about a month ago. Took 10 days to arrive. Came boxed in three pieces, but only took a minute to assemble. Really like it so far. It is really silent compared to my previous chair and rolls MUCH easier on my short nap carpeted platform. My only complaint is I ordered it apparently just before a 15% Off Spring Special - so I paid about an extra $150 (and I was in no rush), but I am notorious for buying things the day before "Sales" are announced!

i got a refurbed amia from crandall, had to replace the piston because it was way too tall and wouldn't lower far enough. seeing how you're saying it could go down to 16 inches im almost thinking that maybe i have a counterfeit chair. Either way, replacing the piston worked, but now the chair creaks and shifts since the piston isn't quite designed for the chair. It is a pretty nice chair though, definitely agree that its one of the more comfortable options out there.

I got the amia from BTOD, arrived today actually. So far, I can say this is better than any 500-600 dollar chair I've had in the past. However, the amount of wobble on the adjustable piece of the arm rest along with the loose armrest pads are kinda killing the experience for me. I will say, after watching a bunch of your videos before buying a chair, the descriptions on your chairs are spot on. When I sit in the seat, the lumbar isn't aggressive but the chair as a whole is basically whispering in my ear to get my posture fixed up when sitting. Given I work from home or the office building, I needed a chair that promotes good posture and is yet so comfortable at the same time. Really wish there is some way I can fix this wobble and loose nature of the resting pads myself.. cause man... I've never had this issue before. Cant find anything on the internet to help me out with it as well

I hate my Amia with a passion after using it a little over a month now, I wish I never sold my Steelcase leap V1. I'm definitely on the lookout for something else again. I don't understand why everyone is so in awe of the Amia (the reason I bought one) I have used both a leap V2 at work and a leap V1 at home for years daily and extensively, and prefer them both over the Herman Miller Aeron for example, and figured because of reviews like this one that I couldn't go wrong with a Steelcase (I also own a Think) Even though this Amia has similar 4D armrests to the leap V2, they don't seem to be far enough apart somehow and my right shoulder hurts from unconsciously continuously pulling my right (mouse) arm in a little as it's impossible to move the armrests outward. This is where the leap V1 shines; even though the armrests are harder, and don't move backward, they do move out to the sides unlike any of those "4d" versions on Amina, Leap v2, or Think. I believe that these arm rests are fine for a meeting room, and would have been fine for desk work 30 years back when we only had an IBM Model M keyboard directly in front of us, and didn't make extensive use of a mouse for which you might want a little support in the area outside the zone direct in front of you. I can not understand why these are called "4D armrests", they move forward, backward and inward, but not outward? Any midrange Ahrend office chair these days does have true 4D armrests that do move in every direction, but that might be something less common depending on the where you live I suppose. The backrest and seat on my Amia are no where near what I'm used to in my 2 leaps; although different as well, I was easily able to sit on those two for 8 to 12 hours a day. Maybe the Amia is too soft for me, I understand that length, posture, weight play a huge part here, still verry disappointing for a chair in this price range to me. The lumbar support can't be adjusted, just repositioned and it sags, so I constantly keep readjusting it cause it moves down to the lowest position during the day. Anyway I just really wanted to say that owning, extensively using and liking a few other Steelcase chairs doesn't guarantee you will like this one at all.

I sat in quite a lot of chairs at my work + I own an Embody and Hag Capisco. I can say, that all chairs I had and sat in so far have a wiggly height lever. I think that is due to the nature of most chairs having gas springs. The lever itself holds no weight and therefore can be more loose.

I purchased the Steelcase Amia from BTOD largely because of your reviews here on youtube and I returned it after only a few days. I do NOT recommend Steelcase chairs for anyone with a thin frame, they are probably only for people with average to heavier body styles. This is what I experienced unlike what reviewers on youtube say about it. I'm a 5'9" and 145lb. When I sat in the Steelcase Amia refurbished by BTOD my first impression was unpleasant with the seat cushion right off. It is thin, it is extra firm, and it puts a lot of pressure on the thighs. So firm that my tailbone became agitated and experienced sharp pain in my tailbone and on the pressure points of my butt within 10 minutes. After 30 minutes, the underside of my thighs went numb from the pressure and shape of the seat edge. Chairs with these thin and firm frisbee-like seat pads simply do not provide proper cushioning for everyone, it felt like sitting on hard plastic. As for the backrest, there was no lumbar support for me. The little rolling mechanism made no discernable difference on the low back. Regardless of what height setting it was on, I could not feel it making contact with my low back. The lock setting has the issue that it'll allow the backrest to tilt back a little ways before it engages. Therefore, I could not sit upright in contact with the backrest, it sort of forced me to either lean back or sit up straight and not use the backrest at all which will cause bad back issues. On testing the recline function, this was the only time I could get any sort of relief from the back pain induced by the lack of support in the upright position. However, I had to sort of "press" my body into the back in order to get it to recline. It wants to resist even on the most reduced tension setting, so I could not enjoy the rest or relaxing position either. The arm pads were frustrating like every other "4d", they want to slide backwards or outwards anytime you put any weight into your elbow or forearm. There is no locking function to stop them from moving once you have them in a good position. So the adjustability feature is self-defeating. I preferred my parent's wooden kitchen chairs from 1974. I've learned my lesson about buying chairs online based on what other people review without actually sitting in them myself. 1/10 would not recommend Steelcase chairs, especially not the Amia, if you have a thin body style like mine.

How old is the chair and have you tried to reach out to Steelcase? This shouldn't happen unless the portion of the back that the lumbar slides up and down is worn out or the upholstered back is loose (from poor upholstery work or the way it attaches to the back is broken). The upholstered back helps to hold it in place to some degree. -GK

I have a question. Now I have two chairs to test from steelcase: Gesture and Leap v2. How is the recline function on the Amia compares to these chairs? Is it closer to Gesture or to Leap v2? I find Leap recline too clunky, if that's a proper word to describe it. :) Maybe this Leap is too old, I do not know. :) The seat on Gesture I find it too forward oriented and that's the reason I find it too hard on my tailbone compared to Leap Thanks! :)
@btodtv
@btodtv 2 жыл бұрын
Could you better describe what you mean by clunky? Do you feel friction that starts and stops? Or you just don't like the overall motion/position the recline puts you in? I think that all three are actually a bit different. The Leap tends to slide your hips up and forward more than the other two. From a tilt/recline motion, I prefer the Amia. But I don't think any of them are good for rocking motions. -GK
@Woot-Zee
@Woot-Zee 2 жыл бұрын
@@btodtv When I recline, instead of being a smooth ride it is like every centimeter there is something that pulls or hinders the movement. Yes, something like the friction is not consistent "starts and stops". I think I prefer the seat comfort on the Leap because the seat is not that forward tilted and it is a bit more suitable to me. It is hard to chose these chairs even when I have them here by my side...damn! If only Sayl had those arms connected to the seat and not on the back + a bit more adjustable back and fwd. :D I have a Sayl, a Gesture and Leap v2 side-by-side (Sayl is mine, the other two are trial)
@btodtv
@btodtv 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is friction coming from the sliding mechanism it uses for the recline. This is normal for that chair and happens with the Amia as well. To reduce it somewhat, you can increase the tension and make sure you don't have the seat slid out too far. For those that like to rock in their chair, I think that Herman Miller is a better alternative. Specifically chairs like the Aeron, Celle, Cosm, etc. They just aren't as comfortable for tasking IMO. -GK
@Woot-Zee
@Woot-Zee 2 жыл бұрын
Yep, I can see that they are a bit more suitable as task chairs. (Especially those arms that do not lift the desk up. Like almost every Herman Miller out there-- I was interested in the Herman Miller Verus too.- again, seat-connected armrest) So you say that the Amia is a bit closer to the Leap in the recline function than the Gesture? (I find very comfortable that seat going-fwd-feature and as a bonus it does not lift my shirt up from my pants, LOL, as Gesture does.) Thanks again! :)

I ordered a brand new HM Aeron and returned it after 30 days. It was killing my back. Strange thing is I used a much older version of the Aeron when I worked in an office and it felt great. Maybe they changed the design. I have a herniated disc, a bulging disc, crumbling vertebrae, and scoliosis. I'm currently using a wooden kitchen chair at my home desk. It isn't comfortable but it doesn't hurt my back. I'm hesitant about ordering another chair because I don't want to keep returning them but I really need one since I work from home. Worth a try for sure. But I would recommend to visit a furniture store and try out different chairs. There is no chair that is the perfect solution for everybody. Therefore it is always a good idea to test the chairs beforehand. Of course a 2 minute sit won't give any information on long term usage, but it can be an indicator if it "makes click" from the start or not.

if you are looking to buy an office chair instead of a gaming chair and you are a controller player under the height of 5 10 i would recommend not getting this chair. the seat doesnt go low enough for your feet to be flat footed and for your knees to be at the height of the seat. if you lean forward with your elbows on your knees for support then you will feel like youre falling out of the chair or having to balance yourself making you lose focus on the game. currently switching back to my old $50 gaming chair because of this and wish i could return the amia. I did get the BTOD cylinder so maybe with the original could go lower but i doubt it
