missed reads could totally be Canada's fault, a few folks have come out to say that his plays have zero detail in them to allow a player to quickly digest what they may need to do in varying situations. So if canada was poor at teaching how to read his offense thats a him problem. PS i am not a kenny fan either way lol

This is proof that dreams can come true. Steelers fan, feeling a sense of wonder and hope. Now we will find out if Kenny Pickett can redeem himself or if he's a one and done QB. I was a KP fan and blamed everything on the Canada, but with how long he lasted I saw Pickett getting worse and worse. Pickett may have been irreversibly contaminated. As a Steeler fan, its nice to see a move happen. I’d like to think the Bill’s played a role in this. A team that actually scored points at any given moment firing their OC. But, also as a Steeler fan, it is worrisome Tomlin didn’t pull the trigger. I’d like to think he played a role, but who knows. Lastly, maybe most importantly,we gotta put the record aside and let Kenny do his thing. Lets try many new plays each week. Lets see what Kenny can do because we gotta figure it out and see if he *can* be the guy this season, not waiting and seeing what he can do for a full year next year.

Only need to go 4-3 from here on out and we play the Cardinals and Patriots so that "should" be 2 "free" wins. I think we can find another 2 wins in division play because of how well we play versus the Ravens and Bengals. Even at our worst, we are 6-1 versus the Ravens the last 3 years. Najee Harris is playing just as poorly as Kenny, only difference between the two guys is Najee's back up is better. Tomlin is currently a top 5 coach, and probably top 3 depending on how you feel about McVay. 6 seasons?! Good God, Belichick hasn't won a playoff game in 5 seasons (and it may go longer than that) and he's the greatest coach of all time. There are only TWO more winning coaches in the NFL currently over Tomlin and that's Reid and Belichick. . . if you're talking post season, then there are currently only 4 coaches better than Tomlin and that's Belichick, Reid, McVay, and Carroll. You need to work on your logic.

But I don’t trust who Tomlin would bring in. And Khan apparently had a hand in picking Kenny too. So it may be that this organization had been way too spoiled with Ben at the helm that they have no idea how or who to look for when drafting quality QB’s. He is progressing fairly well compared to Peyton Manning and Drew Brees so we'll see what kind of QB he becomes. Kenny has MUCH more improving to do, but he has less improving to do than Manning, Brees, etc did. It is WAY too early to pass judgement (no pun intended) on KP, period.

Ben didn't have great numbers in this system. I know you didn't say that, but Ben's numbers were terrible compared to his previous years' numbers. . . and he was the same Ben in his last year as he was his 2nd to last year. I will say that Ben is a bit similar to Pickett in the way that they are using him early, purely as a game manager. Obviously, Pickett has struggled much more than Roethlisberger comparing their early careers, but Pickett is playing better than Peyton Manning during his first full season. Manning went 3-13 his first full season with 23 TD's and 28 picks, Pickett is 6-4 with 6TD's and 4 picks.

@@DJHogue Ben in his last 2 seasons had I think 55 TDs. That was with Canada as OC. Now I won’t compare Ben to Pickett but even Ben struggled with this offense. Ben was just better at changing plays. I wont put everything in Pickett but he is responsible for offense. Also, coaching plays a big role in putting offense and players in a position to be effective and successful. I coach high school basketball(girls) and it’s my job to put my players in a position to be successful regardless of skill level. Canada is trash and so vanilla in his play calling. I’m not saying KP8 is playing well and it’s all coaching but it’s a combination of things. WRs don’t really get great separation. OLine is mediocre but can be better if blocking schemes improve. Rbs have shined but not all the time. Now playing calling in itself is atrocious. So offensively it’s bad all over the field. My opinion anyways.

I think Tomlin and Co. had to do it, its a long time coming. I do say its unfortunate for his position that he was stuck with a retired qb and 3 rookie qb's. Im not giving him any outs by any means. I wanted him gone on the first season. But its just unfortunate circumstances. My point is, if he was the offense coordinator for the chiefs. Im sure mahommes wouldnt make him look that bad. I never played football so somebody gotta explain to me why are we so quick to blame coaches for the poor play on the field? @mr.pick2157
@mr.pick2157 8 ай бұрын
The Steelers QB is in his second year. In order for him to begin to do those things on his own he needs to develop first. He can't develop if his coach doesn't give him the means to develop. Matt Canada's playbook was stale, predictable, and didn't play into his players strengths. The QB doesn't throw it to another guy because the plays are designed to only make one receiver really with throwing to. The opposing defense doesn't need to do much work to break down the offense, and because the QB is new he doesn't have that instinct or courage to pick a different play. Football is as much about strategy as it is who has the better players. And when your strategy is garbage, you don't have the opportunity to develop good players.

Matt Canada's scheming was pretty much out of the late 80s-early 90s. There was next to no designed attack in the middle of the field at all which is where modern offenses love to attack. Kenny Pickett's regression this year is a valid point though. Missed reads and throws are his fault, not Matt Canada's. Time to see if he really has what it takes.
