Steeleye Span was a leading British folk rock band of the late 1960's and 1970's.
This album was released in 1977 on Chrysalis Records, catalogue number CH2-1136, and featured selections from the Steeleye Span albums released on Chrysalis Records between 1971 and 1977.
Audio here taken from a late 1970's Canadian pressing of the original Chrysalis Records LP which I found recently in a local second hand record store.

For some reason, I had a hankering to see if any Steeleye Span was on KZfaq and found this!!!! I had this double album back in the 70's and loved it. Listening to this is bringing back so many good memories for me (my 20's were the happiest period of my life).

Indeed, I have this copy and was looking to listen to the live edition of the Wife of Usher's Well through a different medium...the Canadian listing has some changes, but still classic tunes. 🙂

musically very good. But, I just can't listen to them prattle on about "noble birth" and "gallant" squires. Those are useless, dead symbols of oppression.

Steeleye Span covered a lot of traditional British folk songs and used the original lyrics in those covers. Personally I prefer that the original lyric is used on material rather than it being changed to suit contemporary sensibilities.
