Great video! Dave, what length do you typically run for your shot line and your leader? Any help would be greatly appreciated

When I am running slip floats I will have some big shot on my mainline. My shotline is basically 4-5 feet, and my leader is 2-3 feet.

What length and line do you use on the pin for a leader?
@davependlebury8911
@davependlebury8911 Жыл бұрын
I ran 12lb raven high vis yellow as the main line, 10lb raven light grey as the shot line, and 8.4lb raven fluorocarbon as the leader. The shot line is roughly 5ft. The leader line is generally 18 - 24 inches.

Also, when’s the best time to start hitting the whirlpools for trout in spring? I know the ice breaks off and flows into the pools for a bit then dissipates

@@bradburnside213 Anytime the water clears this season. The visibility has been horrible all winter. Ice has not been an issue this year.

What an epic day... one to remember! It was a blast being a professional net man... can't wait to join you again next year both on the banks for carp, and again for the birthday session as well as an exciting session soon! Thanks for the invite. I definitely need to put down the spinning gear and spend more time with the float gear.

I love fishing the Pool, well Niagara river in general so always look forward to the Birthday special. You guys crushed it, some beautiful fish. I think I've gotten lazy carp fishing as its been a while since I've gotten down there :).

I think the holiday hat brought you some luck, you were killing it. Great trip in the Niagara. Nice to see Andrew in the mix, great fisherman I had the pleasure of fishing with in the past for salmon and also on the ice. He can make a great net man for anyone. Jokes aside, great day out there fellas. The gulp minnow soft plastics are great winter baits and also any type of minnow imitation. Big 👍 from me. Adrian

Great video guys. Expectation is the death of confidence on the river best to just be prepared and roll with the punches. Great to see the stump getting dry after many years of being submerged. I do believe more winter fish run in higher water though. Looking forward to seeing some carp content soon guys!

This was couple weeks back right? I am pretty sure I was fishing there same day, I think I recognized Dave and his Santa hat. I was much further right and fishing spoons and spinners, got a nice Steelhead around 8:30am or so. Unfortunately it took a single hook very deep in the throat and was bleeding a lot so I had to take it, tasted amazing. Later I tried to the left of where you guys were and then further towards glen later in the day but had no luck.

Is that a Raven RPX 13' rod?
@davependlebury8911
@davependlebury8911 Жыл бұрын
I believe John was fishing a 12'6" Matrix Rod, I got all my fish on a 15' IM8, I took a few drifts with a 13'6" RPX rigged with a bead, but didn't hit any fish on a bead that day. Andrew was fishing a 14' IM8 when float fishing
