Steep Canyon Rangers performed and recorded 'Fare Thee Well, Carolina Gals' at the North Carolina Museum of Art on August 18th, 2023 in one of their beautiful gallery spaces before the outdoor show.
This song was written by Robbie Fulks, and can be found on the Steep Canyon Rangers new album, Morning Shift.

Great great version of a great songs, dudes. Totally tangential, but wacky story. Few years back, end of July, I was visiting my native NC before going to the Old Time String Band fest in Clifftop, WVA. Now, truth be told, I'm not a big bluegrass dude, but y'all happened to be playing and talking live on WNCW as I was leaving Asheville bound for Clifftop, and I quite enjoyed what you were doing. A week later. I'd just left Clifftop, I'm on I-64 eastbound, and I get passed by.... your tour bus! I checked later, and believe you had played KY the night before, and were scheduled for Lexington VA that night. Wacky little bookending of my Clifftop. Okay, end of verbose story.

just saw this amazing group for the first time last night at Lime Kiln, in Lexington, Virginia. Can't say much more other than they are fantastic. Superb vocals and harmony. Doesn't get any better than this. They are the real deal.

Love y’all for a million reasons. But hearing you say “Franklin Street” and it conjuring memories of being in Chapel Hill is definitely one of them 😊. Oh and the infamous Caroline mad when the Heels lose in the quarter finals? A true gem
