We stayed at Mama Gerties about a month ago for the first time in a 40 foot fifth wheel and stayed just down from your site in the upper campground. What a pull up that hill!!!!! Thought the truck was going to overheat but we made it and it was totally worth it!! Also went to Mount Mitchell for the first time. Great trip and great scenery. Love your videos!! Keep them coming!

There’s gotta be something wrong with me that I sat watching this thinking the visit to the Retrocade was the highlight, and “Space Invaders and Asteroids are missing.” 😂 The ride was great, the climb into Mama Gertie’s was cool, but my favorite was the Retrocade!

We’ve been to Mamma Gerties several times and last time stayed in that same exact spot. The views ARE fantastic and we’ve always had a blast in the area. Friends were there a few weekends ago and yes, there definitely are bears there. There were a few walking around the campground multiple days. Keep eyes open and have a blast!!

I love the Blue Ridge Parkway! I've done the length of the BRP/Skyline Drive in 2 (maybe 3, can't remember for sure) sports cars, 1 motorcycle, and some "regular" cars. We like to stay at the Mt. Pisgah Inn near the south end. Near the north end, there was some sort of motel, I think in the Shenandoah Valley, that we enjoyed. We drove up to the parking lot at Mt. Mitchell, walked to the overlook. A park ranger let us know they'd be closing the gates fairly soon, but then hung out with us a bit, pointing out the various mountains you can see from there, and saying it was the first time in a long time that it was clear. On the bike, I was behind a guy on a BMW, and we were stuck with the "Follow Me" truck for a while. Then we got to the end of the construction zone, and he took off, so I did the same. We flew by a ranger going the other way, but there wasn't much opportunity for him to turn around, so no tickets. There are so many cool sections of the parkway, with viaducts, tunnels, mountain views, and more. Now that we're RVing, we may stop somewhere nearby (not with 19% grade etc.) and ride parts of it again.

We stayed at Mama Gerties twice (once in November when it got down into the twenties). Beautiful views, but not for the faint hearted. Our biggest challenge was walking our two Golden Retrievers. The KOA Asheville East is right down the road, and flat.

Great video guys! I liked the hill climb. We just did a 10 to 11 degree hill this year too. Natural Tunnel State Park in Virginia. Been a subscriber for a bit now. We also hit Asheville on the way home. Did the pinball museum. It was very cool. I too grew up in the 80’s. Thanks & please keep it up. Jay

Been there with a 42’ Class A in late October. Some snow and 28 degrees at night. Going up was interesting but coming down was a challenge. Made it ok but our pulse was up. If you want more fun check out the Gaspe Peninsula in Quebec. Several 11 degree slopes and one 17 degree along the St. Lawerence Waterway. Lots of great scenery and attractive small towns.

Living near Greenville,SC, we are able to visit the Blue Ridge parkway pretty frequently. It also makes a nice day trip for us. Best time to visit by far is the fall. Shenandoah Valley and Skyline drive which connects to the Blue Ridge Parkway, is one of our favorite areas to camp. Haven't visited the reteocade, yet, but it's now on our bucket list next time we are in Asheville.

Great video, beautiful area. Camp area was fantastic, looks like a place you could stay for quite a while. We were in N.C. few years back. Unfortunately we didn't get to see a great deal. Its on the list of "gotta go back" places. Ya'll (Chad) did a great job on the road, really didnt look that bad. Grade was a little interesting. Bet going downhill will be more fun, you may have to give Tara one of Daisy's "chill pills" if she'll share. Gotta love Sunday's, get to watch two best travel couples, ya'll and Phil & Stacy back to back. God bless yall and stay safe on the road out there.

We have stayed at Mama Gerties a couple of times (at the back turnaround where you set up) and did have a mama bear and cubs hanging out on our last adventure. They were eating the berries on the slope. The mama bear actually surprised up on the first viewing by popping up on the side of the road that goes up to where you were set up. We were walking our trash down, she popped up by the rocks on the side, and I think the look on my wife's face and the bear's face were identical! We weren't 10 feet apart. Luckily, she turn and went back down. Really made us aware of our surroundings.

Years ago, we pulled into a campground at Dupont Forest with a Ram 3500 and 42' 4 horse living quarters horse trailer, the lady directed us on a driveway straight up the side of the mountain. Don't know the grade but it was so steep they cut horizontal grooves in the concrete drive for traction. But when we got to the top of the mountain, our camper door opened to a view like this camp spot. Hope you enjoy NC, we have some awesome areas to visit.

The first week of Aug we pulled our lil’ 18’ bumper pull up to visit friends at the TOP of Beech Mtn. I tow with a Tacoma and felt like I was losing traction on the paved roads leading up to their actual home. Traction loss was confirmed when I got to their gravel driveway. I couldn’t make to where they wanted me to park. I spent two days dreading our eventual departure because equally steep gravel road to get out. I ended up dropping the bars from my weight distribution hitch, immediately saw the back end of the Tacoma sink but still had plenty of clearance, pulled out no issues and with new knowledge.😅

I've been enjoying your content from the beginning and working my way forward. Recently I decided to keep up with your current content and continue to watch older content from time to time. This vid is exceptional. The views from the campground and along the Blue Ridge Parkway are amazing. My parents took me to the Parkway when I was a kid, but my recollection is fuzzy. It's on my bucket list. I wonder how the BRP would compare to the Kancamagus Highway in New Hampshire. Keep on keeping on.

We were there last year the first week in June. We have a 26’ trailer. (GD XLS 22mle) though. Not as scary, my wife didn’t like the hill. We have had experience at Clifty Falls S.P. in Madison, IN on the south entrance. I want to say a 12% grade. I want to go to the Bella Coola Valley in BC, Canada. You have to go down the escarpment (like what is at Niagara Falls only higher.), so it is an 18% grade for 4 miles. Great video!
