I think there are zero standards for slope ratings. Maybe that has changed, but I recall a flurry of double and even four double diamonds on pretty easy runs.

You are 100% correct. Most people don't understand the difference between degrees and tangents. Slope grade is usually calculated with % tangent, not degree. 46-degree is 103% tangent, and it is extremely steep. Most people think it is 46% grade, which is merely 25-degree.

I can see how you're joking but I'm serious. In older ski areas I've seen places where the slope used to go straight down, where the trees have been cut etc, although those descents have been sealed off. Also the new ones they prepare are stricter picks than what you could make a slope out of in the old days. Then of course, not all skiers stay in bounds but there would still be a major difference between a slope which has the basic preparation and to go 100% offpiste. It's a step to get over which shouldn't have to be that wide. You should be able to get trained a higher level in the pistes first.

No doubt you are speaking about the Wall, a bit steep at the top, great snow and covered with nice snow, or a few bumps, I am endlessly amazed at how these sorts of runs attract too many people who are testing their limits, and are a bit in over their heads. I guess this is how we all get better. This is a steep groomer, it is about making carved turns at speeds that would probably poop your pants. It is a run where very elite ski racers and former racers can demonstrate what high-speed steep skiing is all about. These skiers are good, but they would be passed as if they were standing still by really fast racers. In my greener days, I would have loved to blast down that with a couple of buddies.

It is maxbe not the steepest hill in Austria but accordibg to at least a few sourced the steepest ski slope in Austria (as far as I know if it is not marked and groomed it is no ski slope).

Bas Vrebosch No, Harakiri is only marketed as the steepest slope, although it really isn't, they just declared a rather short, steep slope a piste on its own so they could say it's the steepest run. 78% incline isn't even that much, to be fair. So far I only know of one death that's happened there, and that was several years ago. The actual steepest groomed run is Langer Zug, in Lech am Arlberg, 146% incline on the first slope.

78% is around 39 degrees .

You have to groom it with a winch cat. It's anchored to the top with a steel cable to keep from sliding. If you wipe out, you'll slide all the way to the bottom. These guys were making short swing turns in sync with one another. Trust me. That was good skiing.

Da liegst Du leider falsch. Die 46 Grad der gezeigten Piste entsprechen einem Gefälle von über 100%. Somit ist die Harakiri fast schon flach.

100% means you go down 100m when you go forward 100m, which is an angle of 45°. The slope you skiied was 60%, so 60% of 45°, which is 27°. This slope is 103% of 45°. If you had a vertical slope it would be 90° so 200%

Agreed, I know it doesn't look quite as steep on video but seriously you can tell it's really not that steep. I've done a blue at Loveland that's about this steep, some of the double blacks at the top are nearly straight down.
