It's interesting to see that outdoor boulder and route "replicas" seem to get traction lately. That's the way the indoor climbing began before differentiating to it's own separate thing. Now we're sorta going back to the roots.

Pendantic question here, but Pete mentions 8 ppl have climbed 9b+ so far but the vid only shows 7 guys. Who is the 8th? Also who are the two blokes on the left? Im watching on my phone so I cant make out details. Otherwise I see in clockwise order: Megos, Ondra, Stefano, Sean Bailey (?), And Sharma.

So the philosophical question is: if you now go to the real Excalibur and on-sight it does it count as on-sight or just a red point given that you practice on a perfect replica? With all these replica are we bending the rules of on-sighting? Should we ban all the replicas to maintain the purity of the route 😂? (Sorry feeling a bit of Luddite today 😂😂)

It obviously can't be OS. If someone told you about the moves, it already wouldn't be OS, if they set you the moves with more or less acurate holds, it absolutely has nothing to do with OS. The question to be asked is: is it flash, if you tried replica, but didn't touch real thing. I would say it is replica-flash. You can say you flashed it, did in the first try, but you should clearly state that you tried the replica before. For me personally doing such replica-flash is probably less impressive, than doing the route, in 2nd, or 3rd go, but still probably better then doing it after many tries. In the end tho, I think it's more about having fun, than impressing anyone, so whatever. :)
