Russ, full/wing backs are going to be the most important position in J Lo plan. I'd get Walker-Peters from Southampton (in part exchange for JWP as we would not have paid the full fee yet), and James Justin from Leicester. Both are going into the final year of their contracts, can play on either side as full/wing backs and are both England Internationals. Emerson remains and Dan Chesters (give him a new one year deal) is promoted to senior squad with Junior Robinson going out on loan. Scarles is only just 18, so another season in U21s and then on loan the season after next. That sorts the full/wing backs. I would consider letting Fabs go if it was tight with home grown element, bringing in a British Championship Goalkeeper as back up. Antonio, not for me, time to get rid. I like Zaha, but only on a seasons loan, with a young back up to bring on.

Zouma is broken Ogbonna is past it and Aguerd wants out. Center half replacements are going to be vital we get right, this is where steiden needs to earn his money.

Bit difficult because Luton weren't the best opposition but Soucek and JWP played much better as attacking players. Two central defenders needed and a striker. Ben Johnson at right back, Alvares and another defensive midfielder needed. Bowen and Kudus obviously to stay. Zouma, Ogbonna, Aguerd, Paqueta, Ant, Soufal all to go. And to promote some academy players. Simple!

Enjoyed this thanks Russ. I agree with all of your views especially on our defence. I’m a JWP fan, he’s done well on goals and assists but hasn’t been a favourite this season. It’s hard to know whether he’ll get a chance next season. I guess it depends on who we sign and what Lopetegui wants. Exciting times.

So many things to consider but two observations from me - Emerson has to be moved further forward as him as an attacking Mid with a younger quicker LB behind him will be good - JWP is just not dynamic enough but he was excellent in the 2nd half on Sunday as he was passing and moving and spreading the ball about so I just don’t know

Saving money on getting a few older experienced players as a healthy mix with younger non proven project players sounds ok to me ⚒️ Leave more in the kitty for when certain players are available for us to approach

Bring back Potts, Downes etc. for the home grown, also not against bringing in Ross Barkley on a free if needed for the quota.

I don’t think you can move Coufal on yet. Mandatory, we need 2 and maybe 3 CBs, a striker, and a LW. Thats 4 positions that 100% need filling first. Normally it would take us 3 windows to bring that many in. Tier 2, we definitely need but can probably skirt by, we need a Rb and LB, CDM, CM and others. I’d like to see Vlad stay and come off the bench and bring in a proper newer model RB. Fact is we can’t do it until those other 4 positions are filled. Ergo, I think we have to keep them for one more year, knowing our transfer activity tendencies. Yes we have Tim in charge of transfers now, and on paper it looks like a bright new day, but we know the truth. Sullivan is still in charge.
