Steiner MPS might be the best closed emitter red dot.

Closed emitter micro red dots are all the rage. They can definitely offer more protection compare to open emitter red dots. Steiner's MPS looks great on paper but how does it do in the field?

I picked one up awhile ago and absolutely love it. I run it on a M18 and works beautifully. Very fast transitions and clear dot. I feel like this and the Acro are going to be the better choice for people looking for tanks. I also have an sro and feel as if they Arnt too different in sight picture other than the shape. I ended up with the sro on a carbine personally.

The MPS is on my radar 100%. I am super glad about the fact the closed emitter ecosystem is growing, the 509T got me into dots, and I have an EPS Carry with the 6 MOA dot on the way (Brownells code TA10 for 10% off) for the P365X. PS. I definitely think my goal with the enclosed dot differs from some others. I mostly just wanted to have something that could live under a shirt and not worry about having to clean out the dust bowl. I have had mine since late last year, and it seems to be managing ok 🤞. But in terms of something that I would beat on, I would say the MPS and the Romeo2 look to be two of the most bomb proof optics available.

I have the MPS on a pistol and the ACRO gen2 piggybacked on my rifle. Comparing them side by side, they are extremely similar. The only real advantage the ACRO has is the bigger battery and therefore more battery life. The only issue I have with the MPS is that it prints when carrying concealed due to the sharp, distinct upper edge.

I have 3. One on Springfield Echelon, Shadow System XR920, and FN 510. All enclosed emitters have smaller windows than the less than combat worthy SRO. Once you train with them, they are fine. Cost, build quality and clarity keep me buying them. I high recommend if you are looking for enclosed emitter.

Good review. I run one on a PDP handgun but already want a second one for my rifle. Auto shutoff can be disabled but the battery life is still shorter than some of the competition. I feel like they could jam a cr2032 into the same housing so there’s hope for a gen 2. The mount is a little different than acro so some acro mounting plates don’t work very well but most do. I bought mine at Midway for $379 which is a steal for this optic, but I haven’t seen them that low since. The only other thing That surprised me is that you mentioned the bad durability of the 509 but still run SROs I’ve heard those break fairly easily but I have no personal experience with them so it just could just be internet taking.

@@joquin4618 That advice is right for almost everything. I would never buy a gun that was "Gen 1". Almost every gun manufacturer has issues to fix on new guns. Interested in an update on your experience with this optic. My issue with the SRO is durability. Sorry but its just not the RMR, I broke two in the last 16 months. Trijicons warranty process was great, but as for a duty rated optic, NOPE, doing combatives broke both, getting slammed into a padded wall, busted the glass, and rolling on the ground broke the other, Eric at Sage Dynamics and The guys at Seclusion Outdoors beat the hell out of this optic and it took it. I have a combative training coming up so we'll see how well it holds up, but I'm feeling really pretty good about it.

My personal opinion is that whether the steiner MPS is for you depends on what type of personality you have. If you're a glass half empty person, it's a closed emitter dot with half the battery life of an aimpoint acro p2 :( If you're a glass half full guy it's a closed emitter dot with 3-5 times the battery life of an aimpoint acro p1:) If you're poor, it's a slightly overpriced holosun 509t.
