i cant thank you enough BOF, for holding this interview with Stella, its so informative! I'm a second year BA Fashion Design student from Ghana and Iv always had interest in Sustainability in Fashion, and to my mates and even some lecturers in my school, the idea is just unheard of and to them a waste of my time. But watching this interview has really opened my mind and edged me to keep working on.

It's so fuckin amazing to see Vivienne Westwood taking part in a Q&A. I fell in love with the situation.

There is much to be done by the entire industry, not just by the luxury brands. Kudos to Stella McCartney for not compromising her values and also remembering that we are human, we can make mistakes sometimes, but what is important is what we learn from the experience. And seeing Vivienne Westwood so interested in sustainability is just the icing on the cake!

A very informative discussion about topics I really need to become more aware of as a consumer, and ways the entire fashion industry needs to re think and make crucial adjustments, in order to halt harming our planet. I must say that I found Stella McCartney's repeated retort to Vivienne Westwood : "You can work with me." "You can be my right hand" really obnoxious and disrespectful to not only an elder, but a living legend and trailblazer. Admirably Madame Westwood concealed being possibly insulted and chose to shrug it off most gracefully with a cheeky reply.

Great that Stella is promoting sustainability in luxury fashion at last but she wasn't the first...Designers like her need to put big budgets to supporting ethical supply chains so they can survive and thrive - the small indies (like us tammam.co.uk) who have been doing it for a long time don't have the resources to make a huge difference but should't be discounted, a little credit for being trailblazers please? I really want to know why Stella McCartney decided to collaborate with adidas. Her point of view sounds just ideal, but totally stands in contrast with adidas' attitude. This company has been involved in so many scandals over the last decades - even until now. There are amazing leather substitutes out there which look, feel and even smell like leather. Fantastic fake croc, fake snake, fake cow and so on. Beautiful and thick and forever lasting materials which are claw proof as well.

The "20 times more inefficient. Fact" refers to fur vs faux-fur. It's on PETA's website and it's sourcing a paper by Gregory H. Smith entitled Energy Study of Real vs. Synthetic Furs from the University of Michigan, September 1979. Surely with all the advancements in fabric technology and industry there's something better to site than misattributing a near-40 year old paper? I know fur and leather are both tanned and produce waste therefrom, but even comparing animals the scale just doesn't line up. Don't get me wrong, leather does great harm to humans and the environment - just look at pictures of the tannery workers from India, they suffer from vitiligo-like skin conditions due to exposure - and finding a suitable substitute would do the world some good. But you cannot make progress with out dated (and perhaps mis-)information.

Why are you only concerned about animals as the only affected creatures by this industry. There are human beings working in those fur and leather factories in the most horrible conditions. They are working long hours and paid a pittance and even loose limbs. You need to visit those factories in Italy and you will be shocked to find out.

This might be the latest (24 May 2015) adidas-scandal: www.zeit.de/2015/21/adidas-arbeitsbedingungen (it's in german). So if you believe Stella McCartney they truly do not fit together.

C’ est s’ imposer des difficultés ….pourvu que les consommateurs s’ informent et choisissent un mode de fabrication ergonomique et écologique…sinon …dans sa vision : de plu s en plus nombreux à entamer les resources limitées naturelles… c’ est une pression qui s’ annonce … un sauvé qui peut ?!….en laissant tout abîmé derrière soi?!….pas très glorieux …et surtout pour reconstruire une société viable ailleurs …
