Note; The Enigmatic Fortress drop rates have changed. At the moment you only get one item. However it'll change again in 1.8. Updates on this subject are coming.

This is one of my favorite encounters. The rewards are fantastic and give you an edge over every other civilization, including fallen empires.

You forgot that there's a fourth option after the tower event. If you have the strategic resource dark matter, you can insert dark matter into the enigmatic fortress and get all five techs from it (I think it's the same as if you use the black hole researcher)

If you have the tech and strategic resource you can "supply your own dark matter" during the third phase. this will give you access to all the tech plus 30% progress and finish the event chain. The enigmatic fortress is also the best encounter you can get. Those techs are really usefull and give you an edge over everyone else. If you're in a federation - leave it. You don't want that tech spreading to other species.

SPOILER ALERT I lost my entire goddamn fleet of ~100k because I didn't expect this thing to explode >.< Cool stuff.

Heads up guys: If your ship has a mega canon, and a carrier combat computer, which suppisedly keeps the ship at 150 range, IT IS NOT FAR ENOUGH!! If that is 150, the fortress's weapons can reach that far too. I will update this comment as i try the other weapons too, including the Titan with it's supposedly 250 standoff range.

Want to go to war? This is the thing for you, don't get a baby dragon or extra research on a black hole, instead get super mega awsome techs even better than the FEs

Infinity machine also isn't combat focused if I recall right.

As a little side note once I've defeated the fortress: With Gestalt Consciousness the whole event chain is skipped and you'll get 2 technologies with 30% completion

I got the last ending where I picked the middle... (after like the 10th fail when combined with all my other fails, because THERE IS NO WAY THEY PUT THE CORRECT CHOICE IN THE MIDDLE....(some time later)..... THEY DID, FUCK!) But, since I actually forgot all about my choice path, this video is sure to end up very, very useful sometime in the future. :D

The Commonwealth of Man will use this fortress to great advantage, I have to deal with it anyway since two terran class planets are in the same system as it.

Imagine staring with a system loaded with barren worlds with moon getting the Horizon signal event chain, then finding this in a neighboring system of your home world staring point. Broken start?

I finally found this in one of my games and...I discovered it's bugged since 2.0. Take it down the first time, get the initial message about sending a team, then no other options appear. The fortress then starts to regenerate every month, repeating the same initial message. I really hope they fix it soon!

It has been years and Paradox hasn't yet fixed the army section of Stellaris. But stuff like this? Sure! Here you go. Imagine how cool it would be if you can edit devisions in stellaris: Choose the weapons (plasma, laser, kinetic, rocket), choose if give them shields or armor or leave them without, choose what strategem/tactic the army leader can opt for during an invasion. Heck! I'd settle for being able to change the icons of the armies just to distinguish which army is which.

With a 30k fleet outfited with giga cannons, kinetic weapons, and plasma cannons, the fortress shreds through destroyers.

theres actually a 4th method at the end. u can deploy dark matter if u have it in store. doesnt change much. it does almost the same as the black hole research. the only things different are that there are 3 drops with 16% and 2 with 33 % chance to drop.

*first time i saw it* Me: huh... thats a big fort *200 years later* Me: alright this for is in the middle on my empire and is blocking my transport way i need to take it down *sends in 2.2k fleet* *Fleet arrived* *2 seconds later* *the whole Fleet died* Me: . . . . OKAY! lets not fuck with that

Can't say if it was possible back then, but you can't out range the fortress now; I set up ships with Tachyon Lances (Size X, 150 Range) with a carrier combat computer (fire from 150 range)- the fortress was firing as soon as the ships entered the system, and they had to fly half-way in to return fire

This video was really helpful as I have recently found this in my playthrough and had no idea what to do and was about to send a fleet of 10k power to attack it lol

Huh, I actually know what that puzzle is for the third stage (the metal tori and the poles). I can't recall its exact name for the life of me (Google Search: Tower of Hanoi). Essentially, you move the rings, one at a time, from the left to the right, with the order being the same in the end as the beginning (largest on the bottom, smallest on top).

Hey, I really like your vids and I love the Stellaris, too. I see your series Mankind Prevails, AI Returns, etc., and thought that it would be a great series if the viewer could choose what to do (like wich ethics, perks, allies, war, etc.), so every day like a 10 min episode and at the end the viewer can make a desicon what do you do next. What do you think about the idea?

My fortress defenses were knocked down, then they'd pop back up in like 10 seconds so I'd break it again and id get dozens of pop ups about boarding it

So, black hole research only allows you to chose the options, while research home stsr gives you all the options

Do not try the outranging method, I set all of my ships to stay at 150 range and they got annihilated.

my curator is bugged I can get evrthing but when I ask about anything I get the bonus or in this case how to power it it shows the text for less then a second so I failed the enigmatic puzzle

The fortress is disabled. I never interacted with it. WTF!? I've heard this is a bug, but I don't know how it happened or why.

Yeah I guess it change a bit. Obviously. Right now they are 4 ways to finisz instead of 3 and from what I experienced the star research works the same way.

The first time I was able to defeat and enter the fortress was very disappointing because it bugged out, showing a prompt every couple of seconds on what I would like to do with it. And the worst part was that this ruined my whole run because I was in ironman mofe. I’ve never dared to enter the fortress ever since

In 2.1 if you are Gestalt Consciousness (robot) you'll simply destroy the station and get some research points and Enigmatic Encoder & Decoder.

Well with gigastructural constructs mod I discovered it three times in same game. First was regular one, and the two others were in systems i discovered with the E.H.O.F Well got the fortress surpassment event three times was pretty good.

Started a game and bam Enigmatic Fortress right in my territory not sure if that can happen without mods screwing with empire spawning or not but that"s really awesome that i have the broken tech near the beginning. Let me know if this is something that can normally happen or if it has to do with mods.

I was looking for anything on the "Destruction of The Enigmatic Fortress Construct opportunity" with more or less the full sentence or other enquiries. I could not find _anything_ on this _anywher_ on the _entire internet_ at least in what results showed up... And, as per usual, the Paradox wikis, bless them, are woefully inadequate for anything but the most basic info available - and this goes across _ALL_ of their games. I mean, I'm not going to wait for an answer here whether to let some of my pops die or not and whether there will be some cataclysm event like with the Dimensional Horror... just have to try and fail I guess... However I am leaving this comment here because maybe you'd like to update or make new videos based on what actually happens _AFTER_ because that's what really is interesting IMO, anything before that is kinda... trivial... Thank you

Wow. 7 years ago. Yeah. Shit has changed. I only got the encoder and decoder from the "correct" option. The deflectors and what-not dont exist anymore it seems, and yes the star system is extremely nerfed to just a couple of planets (one of which was inhabitable anyways)

So I was a gestalt consciousness and I defeated the fortress but it just blew up and only gave me the encoder and decoder .-. I didn’t get any of the other researches and it didn’t let me go through the event chain.. any reasoning for this?

I'm having trouble activating the quest chain, in my past two play throughs I've defeated the Enigmatic Fortress but nothing happened, both times I went for around 20-25 years after defeating it and nothing happened. Am I missing something? Is there a console command I could input to maybe force the chain to start?

It really sucks that this event tends to bug out most of the time for me with modded Stellaris. The last 2 saves I've played I've had the fortress reactivate shortly after I defeated it and have to kill it 4 times before I can finally initiate hyperlane jump and GTFO

Are you going to do anything with the horizon signal DLC? I tried triggering it in one of my saves, but the amount of options that exist, and the randomly occurring events are both ridiculously numerous. I might have to try it in some more test worlds, but it is definitely worth taking a look at.

I am annoyed now. I attacked the enigmatic fortress while it was just barely within another empires influence, and near the end of the fight, they sent their fleet to help. I think they got the last hit on the thing, because when the vault was disabled, I got no prompt or event chain whatsoever.

maybe it is an update ? i found out that now you can use a LV 7 scientists at the last part just research the Fortress to end it and still get all the 30% research point

Yea don't do the use force option, blew everything up and got no planets. I was thinking worse case the two planets would become tomb, but not literally destroyed the planets in the system and gave me 0 tomb worlds.
