Hi Skaters, I’ve had lots of skaters ask for this one recently. Just think of it as a reverse Open Book turn.
I’ve broken it down so it’s nice and easy to follow, hope it helps you.

Brill! Can't wait to give this a go. Been stepping forwards from backwards and it feels so awkward and clunky.

One of the best skaters in the world, (or one of my favorite if best isn't agreed upon). So clean, so smooth and easy to understand. Skates, thank you so much hun, for everything you do for us. Thank you for acknowledging your followers. I'm sorry I'm so annoying, but I really love what you do. ❤ ❤

How do you know exactly what I need to drill! I’m great going backwards to forwards turning left but was stuck with the mechanics on my non dominate side. Immediately saving this video to my “Skatie” playlist! Thank you for sharing your expertise. 🎉

Love this! That non dominant side can be a real pain. Make sure your arms aren’t working against you. Have fun 😎🤩🛼⭐️

Been working on this lately and really struggling! Getting pretty good with front to back but back to front is a lot harder! I have a very hard time with weight transfer and balance going backwards!

Hallo Skatie, your drills backward to forward, are great. Iam learning in the moment to turn from back to front, counter clockwise. But when i am turning i pull my right leg very quick in all 4 skills back to front. For me this skill is the most difficult basicskill. All the other basics skills are after 7 weeks of skating very easy. Including backwards, crossover backwards. There are some hacks to turn easier from back to front? Maybe you can help me? All your other videos for beginners are so great, you teach it so nice. Best wishes and regards Robert from Hamburg Germany🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈

Sounds like you’re smashing it. Maybe working on some balance drills will make the transition from backwards to forwards a little easier. Don’t forgot those shoulders too.

Thanks! It always helps to watch your videos and remember what's important. I can do transitions, but at a very slow speed. Do you have any tips to help me get the confidence to do them at a higher speed? I wish I could get more flow in my skate sessions.

Hashtag Sigma Grindset. I couldn't do transitions *at all* until mid-November. Five months later, after over 1,000 assessed attempts at FTB anticlockwise, I'm getting a bit of speed up and can do that at a "casual morning stroll" pace (around 5-6 mph), whereas my target will be "able to snap round with ease at double-digit mph so I can always use this technique to stop". That might be at 10,000 attempts - or more. Meanwhile, FTB clockwise is a lot harder and after 1,000 assessed attempts I can still just barely do it at walking pace and even then I'll need 10 miserably terrible attempts at the start of a session before I'll get it right. This might take 100,000 attempts to crack. And *then* there's the BTF transitions in this video that I've barely started on... which are harder. Relentless practice is the only way. Do it, do it, do it again, do it again and again. And you'll pick up speed on the stronger side... maybe faster than I did, if you've got agility stats as low as mine. Maybe you'll only take 500 attempts to get as far as I did in 1,000. Maybe you'll take 20,000 attempts to do what will take me 100,000 - or maybe you'll take a million. There's no other way to find out except to start on the grind.

I noticed that when I focus on turning my upper body first, rather than focusing on what I'm doing with my feet, I can do it faster. It's really hard for me to remember to turn my upper body first. This is my main thing I'm practicing right now.

It’s mainly about repetition and feeling more comfortable. Think about looking where you want to go. That will help pull the edges etc and don’t forget arms and shoulders turn hips and feet.

Hmmm. As one of those mentioned inquisitors over on t'other site (you know the one I mean), I'm slightly dismayed that it looks even more complicated than the "standard" heel-heel-manual-snap-round-in-a-near-instant turn. I can do the initial edges, no problem - but by the time I could even make the mental preparation to start the actual manual-part I'll already have done a complete 180° U-turn. This one's going to need the lounge floor clearing and a lot of stuff moved out the way that I don't want broken... ...but it's got to be done, some day.
@Skatie

Try to just lean on the edges so it’s a subtle edge before the turn. Think of it needing to be just enough to make the turn less than 180. In the slow mos see how my edges are really shallow.

Hey Skatie, do you have any tips for transitioning from back to front but at a corner just after back crossovers? Not sure if you get what I mean but I’ve been trying so hard, pause at videos of you doing it and I just can’t get it right.
@Skatie
@Skatie 2 ай бұрын
Yes. So after the last backpull lift the foot that is on the outside of the circle and cross it over the inside foot. Then step forwards in to an inside edge. I’ll see if I can find a time stamp of me doing this. It’s the last few steps of this skill. So rather than the backwards to forwards transition do the backpull then add the cross and step forwards kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m7ufmdyk073DaIU.htmlsi=5_0IzJKI2VqxUj2S

Anyone have any thoughts on how wheel hardness relates to this? I see people here in California sliding around in these little hard wheels and it looks almost effortless.
@doughchaser5320
@doughchaser5320 Ай бұрын
way easier to do this on fiberglass because the wheels don’t grip you just have to make the turn
