Love Of The Grain Workshop shows you the easy step by step instructions for replacing (changing out) your Electric Power Planer blades. Easily done in 10 minutes or less. If you do not have the black blade depth guide you can buy it on Amazon or eBay. If you do not have the supplied nut driver from Makita you can use a 9mm wrench or socket. This is the most thorough guide I’ve seen. Sonce the one from Makita is only given with written instructions and others show you the wrong way to do it without the guide. Which can cause lots of problems. Thanks for watching, commenting, liking and subscribing. Be sure to follow me on Facebook & Instagram as well.

- Very clear, concise info. This planer is new for me. The instructions are so POOR that they could have saved the paper it's written on. Thanx again. You're a life saver.

I have the same model planer that I picked up secondhand. I was wondering what the black block was for. I had no idea it was to assist in installing the blades. Thanks for the video. Six doors later, I can say, it's a great planer. Now if I can only figure out how to remove cotton material from the side of the spin wheel. I caught my t-shirt with the tool and jammed it up. Moral of the story, quit before you get tired and a little careless.

M. Drier haha! I should do a video for that as well. I caught a cotton blanket it was resting on once as well as its own power cord once. I didn’t notice it was under the planer when I ran it over the surface. You have to disassemble the whole thing. Both bottom plates. The black cover on the side , the belt, the nuts holding the bearing wheels in place. Then a hammer and screwdriver to bang out the bearings. Fun fun fun. Glad this vid helped.

Great video. I've had a couple of these planers over my life. Recently bought a Festool planer because the homeowner wanted a special exposed handhewn rafter detail throughout a home (they offer a shaped cutter head good for that) and I figured I'd end up using the Festool exclusively after that. Not so much. I like my Makita for normal planing tasks much better. Great little tool.Now how bout a tuning video? You can really dial these planers in nicely.

I had recently acquired one from a friend thats finished woodworking. This video was an amazing find. You must be very careful reinserting the new blades. If it's off just a hair, it will bind inside so give it a couple of hand turns first to make sure the blades don't touch anything inside before turning it on

BTW, nice video thanks The two most popular planners are this one in the Bosch and the 2632 Bosch has a twin blade. They are much faster and easier to change and seem to leave a very nice finish but might not cut is duct where this planer apparently will cut an 1/8 inch deep. Any thoughts on that? Have you had to cut very much stuff that deep I am going to be cleaning rough sawn lumber from an Amish mill. I also have a big planer machine but I don’t have it online right now I’m considering buying one of each.😮 going to be building a small Timber Frame Home
@loveofthegrainworkshop2891

I only have this brand. Have not tried the Bosch. This will cut very deep though it’s hard on it. So you need to cut shallower anyway.

I think I have an issue with the blade depth relative to the back plate. My question is, if I set the planer on a flat surface and turn it on, should the blades make contact with the wood? In other words, if everything is set to zero, would the planer still cut an already perfectly flat piece of wood? ....should it? Thanks.
@loveofthegrainworkshop2891
@loveofthegrainworkshop2891 3 жыл бұрын
I dont think so no! With the front plate adjusted to the same plane as the back plate. The blade should bot touch wood.

@@loveofthegrainworkshop2891 I took a closer look and saw that I don't have the little, slide in blades, but rather, the big, solid blades. I used the jig to put an edge on them just to see what it's like. If these get full quickly, I'll get the adapter and install the small blades.
@TerryWysocki

Same as Timothy Ball. I have the 1900B model and it has the cutting edge right on the 1"x3" steel piece! I assume that the little black rectangle I got with the unit is the guide for new blades of this sort too??? Then I'm also puzzled about what the other black plastic beveled piece on a metal plate with thumbscrews is for??? BTW, I saw a another vid that has a really good discussion on planers which helped me understand how they're supposed to work: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lcdhe6aisJvNXXU.html

Where to get the "guide?" How to best adjust the depth of cut? Why the 4 screws in the bottom plate?
@loveofthegrainworkshop2891
@loveofthegrainworkshop2891 5 жыл бұрын
William Bergmann if you don’t have the guide you can get a replacement on eBay or amazon. Adjusting the depth is the black knob on the top front. The four screws on the bottom plate just hold the plate on. They do not adjust anything.
