Step by step, how to replace, Chevrolet Colorado alternator, 3.6L V6, years 2015 to 2022. (Ep.5)

A fairly step by step video, on how to replace an alternator on a 3.6L Chevrolet Colorado (2016). General Motors states that years 2015 to 2022 belong to the 2nd Generation of Colorados, and all of the 3.6L gas engines in them, should be able to access and remove/replace the alternator in the same fashion....... I ended up having to replace mine half way through a long trip from Lansing area to the tip of the lower peninsula of Michigan. After having to surf KZfaq and watch quite a few videos, I figure Id make a video with everything all in one video. The total time it took me to access and replace my alternator (as a first timer) took me about 2.5 hours, NOT including the time it took to have someone get the alternator from AutoZone and bring it to me, along with tools to take it out. Hopefully this video saves someone else the research time it took me... Huge THANK YOU to my father for driving about 2 hours to AutoZone, then up to me, just to turn around and have to drive about 1.5 hours home..... Also big shout out to the workers at the Mobil Gas station just off Highway 127 in Rosebush, Michigan, for being so pleasant about letting me be in their side lot and staying there the many hours it took to repair my truck.... @@Jviper76 .. Glad it went well for you.. When my alternator went out, I was just over 2 hours from home, in the back parking lot of a small gas station, middle of nowhere, and I was towing my camper trailer. Only way it could have been worse, would be rain... There are many videos out there on KZfaq that show how to change the alternator, but not in a step-by-step process including removing the air intake cover and associated parts.... I had to piece together about 8 different videos to figure out the process I would take, so I could be sure to have all the tools I would need be correct, as my father was the one bringing them to me along with a new alternator..... Hope you never have to change it again, and wishing you and your loved ones a great weekend.

Did you disconnect the hot wire on the back side of the alternator before or after removing the (3) 15mm mounting bolts? That part is not shown but, important to know before proceeding forward.

On my truck there is enough wire that I pulled the alternator up to the top of the engine and to the front of the truck first before removing the nut. The wire did not restrict me .... Of course some people have told me that it is just easier for them to reach underneath and take the nut off before. I would say whichever one is easier for you to do, based upon your arm length, reach and ease of getting to the nut.

Thanks so much man this is gonna help me a lot how much did you pay for the alternator also do I have to replace the battery to?

@@slimyslots4981 I got it from AutoZone and it was around $200 but it comes with a lifetime warranty... I did not have to replace the battery on my truck... If you are unsure I would have a mechanic look at it... Just for information my battery is 5 years old if that helps you... Once I replaced the alternator all I had to do was get a jump start to get back on the road... Hopefully you're able to replace it in the comfort of a garage or at least your home, and not like me far from home/tools in some parking lot...... Wishing you and your loved ones a good week.
