Great video Wes! I am retired only starting in woodworking. This is more a how to use video which i love. Always Learning. I made my first birdhouse and am ready to try a more complicated one now.!

Nice video. I have made dozens of bird houses and I was always taught to make sure there were vents.
@rickw6521 Жыл бұрын
No vent holes a death trap, a one time house no way to clean it out. But if you understand how to put vent holes in or don't do the 30 degree cut on the sides and you have ventilation. and 2 pins and a screw in the bottom so you can clean out!

Great videos, my only comment is that in the second house made I would have a catch or lock to the hinged roof as squirrels will lift the roof and take the young or eggs.

Are you building it for show or for a bird to live in? If it is for a bird to live in, omit the little perch on the front. Predator birds will sit on it and use it to help them peck inside the house. The smaller birds that will live in the house do not need the perch to access the house.

@@TiCranium1988 Lack of a clean out door is the #1 problem with ‘bird house experts’. #2 is sticking a perch on it. #3 is having the wrong size hole for the type of bird the house is for. I am not an expert but I have done some research.

Hi Wes. I tried to copy your first bird house and I run into a problem. How did you do the floor ? What should be the width before you do the 15 degree miter ? If I say the width of the floor is 51/2 inches and then do a 15 degree miter cut , the floor width will not match the width of the front and back. Second , I see your cuts are so perfect , do you mill your pieces before you start ? If you do , do you send them through jointer and thickness planer ? I would really appropriate your input.

I made one like your second model and the hinge kinda gets pinched when I try to open the door. Any ideas? Should i chisel out a spot for the hinge?

2 things how are you gonna clean it since you nailed the whole thing 🤔? 2 the pegs are easy to sit on it till they kill its other than that looks nice just wish i had a table saw any tips to cut the degrees with a hand saw ? lol

I would skip the 30 angle so there is air movement
@AndrewScarella9 ай бұрын
I am confused by the marks on the chop saw, how did you know where to make those? I think it would be easier if you said how far to measure from the edge and make a mark on the wood in order to get that 15 degree cut

Essential that bird boxes have vent/ drainage holes in the base. The entrance hole would benefit from a steel / metal protection rim to prevent predators from pecking out the wood. The inside of the front cover would benefit by glueing small twigs to make it easier for the fledglings to grip when egressing from the box.

You should never cross your arms/hands while using a miter saw. Look how close his hands are to the blade.

You are dangerous with your saw! YOU SHOULD NEVER CROSS ARMS while operating a miter saw. Your arm came in contact or dangerously close to the blade guard.

different birds different hole sizes?

@@MrStanwillis Yes and very important to make the hole the right size and distance from bottom for the desired bird.
@Vinterfrid7 ай бұрын
@@ODX171 Exactly! In the first house the distance between the entrance hole and the bottom is too short - making it easier for predators to raid the nest.
