When it comes to Toddy, Lijo Jose Pellisserry shows a lot of Toddy drinking in his films. His style of film making is like Federico Fellini or like Emir Kusturica. I will tell you some similarities in filming of Lijo Jose Pellisserry and Emir Kusturica 1) LJP makes his films in a Toddy shop while Kusturica's movies are filmed in a Kafane. 2) The actors in both type of movies sit across a big table and they eat great food. In Kusturica's films it is Šarma, čevapi and a whole roast lamb/pig, in LJP film it is duck curry, meen pollichattu and biryani. 3) In both films the protagonists get drunk. In LJP films it is Toddy and in Kusturica's movies it is Rakija. 4) The protagonists get angry and fight in both films and then there are brass bands trying to restore order in the chaos. 5) LJP movies are based in local Kerala contexts while Kusturica's films are based in local Balkan Contexts. LJP made a movie about petty gangsters called Angamaly Diaries (2017) and Kusturica made a movie about petty gangsters called Black Cat White Cat (1998). I loved both these films.

The fresh extract from the palm tree is called "Neera" as Neera ferments & develops alcohol content it becomes toddy. Hence in the state like Maharashtra it is sold as Neera instead of toddy as you need permit for selling alcohol. You will never see a toddy shop in Maharashtra instead all shop boards will say Neera shop (Neera Kendra)

Great selection no words. A marriage sadhya, veg feast is still the best in kerala or the woorld 😮(it is easy for a white to get invited to any marriage, just ask around). Also I strongly suggest to carry your own salad box (with yoghurt) or just a cucumber and tomato and ask permission to have it there. Most places will immediately agree if a white asks 😅. This way you can balance the food. Else your chest will cry and indigestion grips you all over. Shaapu places might agree to make a salad for you but then it won't be hygienic. As they won't have a proper raw cutting board or gloves. I am a local keralite who lives abroad. Hence this tip. Now, I kept saying about the white privilege. You might also have had first hand experience of it. But this is perhaps the only place in the world that 'proudly' accepts this weakness. How? Well, there is a proverb that starts with 'Sayippine kandal...' (if you see a white man...) I let you complete this sentence in next visit

The reference to anything about Kerala isn't 'Keralan'. Its called 'Keralite' . Consequently Keralite Porottas, Keralite rice and so on and so forth...
