Detroit went 12-4, won their division, had a bye in the playoff round, and defeated Dallas in the divisional playoff. That sent them to the NFC championship against the Redskins (where they were blown out 41-10). Wayne Fontes won coach of the year, and everybody expected bigger and better things of the Lions for the '92 campaign. What happened? They went 5-11 (their schedule was tougher, which exposed their weaknesses). These Lions have a different feel. I initially thought that they had a realistic shot at winning in the wild-card round while losing in the divisional round. Now, since Dallas lost to GB and the Lions will be hosting another playoff game, they at least have a shot to win next week. Whatever happens, if they can strengthen their secondary and bolster the OL, they could very well be a juggernaut next year.

@@JeffGonyo Agreed. The Rams took the Ravens to OT away from home, and of course the Lions just beat the Rams. So, it would stand to reason that the regular season blowout was an anomaly. Goff said after losing to the Ravens that their problem was execution, not anything in particular that the Ravens did. If there were another matchup, I think the game would be much closer. That said, if the Lions manage to win next week, and if SF beats GB, I'm not so certain we can beat the Niners. Of course, I hope that we will, but it'll be nerve-wracking. Interestingly, if GB manages to beat SF, and if the Lions win, Detroit will be hosting a third straight playoff. That's like having the number one seed. Whatever GB's been smoking, it's working for them, but since the Lions have beaten them, they should have a legitimate shot at getting revenge in the NFC championship.

Why would they? That had no more impact on the game than the awful false start, which should have been offsides on the Rams, to end the Lions drive at the end of the first half. That was the first defensive stop the Rams got the whole game, and the Lions would have been in FG range at the least. And, yes, that should have been PI on the last Rams drive, but there were no-calls and calls against the Lions as well. Did nobody see the Rams' OL holding on practically every pass? We know the whole country saw that Ram forearm to the Lion facemask, but all the refs must have been looking the other way. Everybody also saw the Rams' neutral zone infraction, but the Lions got called for a false start. Yes, that was a bad non-call that should have went the Rams' way, but the Rams' D had plenty of time on the clock to stop the Lions, yet they gave up two first downs. That's on them, not on the refs, not on the NFL, and not on Russian collusion.

When you talk about the no-calls on the Rams' OL for their holding on practically every pass. When you talk about the Ram forearm to the Lion receiver's face that the whole stadium except the refs saw. When you talk about the alleged false start when the Rams clearly committed a neutral zone infraction. When you talk about the clear and obvious hands to the facemask against Hutchinson. So, yeah, let's talk about it. Yes, that was clear PI. It should have been called. What's worse is having the clear PI called and then taken away, like what happened to the Lions in their playoff against the 'Boys in 2015. That was outrageous, but we Lions fans tend to forget that Stafford had multiple offensive possessions afterwards to score, with the likes of Reggie Bush, Golden Tate and Calvin Johnson. He couldn't do a thing. That's on us, not the Cowboys, the refs or the NFL. Likewise, the Rams' D had plenty of time to stop the Lions, but they couldn't get the job done. The Lions earned two first downs to ice the game. That's on the Rams, not the refs, not the NFL, and not on the Russians.
