It has to do with his iconic Comedy Central character. See more in WSJ. Magazine’s cover video interview with ‘Late Show’ host Stephen Colbert . Directed by Barbara Anastacio.
In “The One,” WSJ. Magazine talks to tastemakers and creators about “the one” secret to their success-the one mentor they lean on in a crisis, the one habit they wish they could break, the one call that changed their lives forever. From actor Nicole Kidman to “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah to Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, iconic cultural figures open up to WSJ.

@@pHD77 It's a fair point, though I admit what *I* got out of the experience was an understanding that (a) people are always striving to understand _how things work_ , and in the absence of knowledge/science/empirical truth we will fall back on hypothesis and correlation=causation kinds of thinking; and (b) religion is a social construct, and not to be confused with spirituality. The two are demonstrably separate phenomena. And also? We (meaning, modern humans) are quick to ascribe notions of "universal morality" to anything that confirms and promotes our own biases, no matter how distant we are from the source material culturally. Oh -- and we love a good story. I shouldn't forget that. Our ability to influence and connect with others through narrative is both confounding and amazing.

I've read it both as a believer and as a student. It actually makes more sense to me when read from the student point of view. It can be difficult for me to accept that some things documented were ordained by God. But I choose to believe, that's where the faith comes in. Might I be wrong? Sure. But it helps me to love people and to try to be a good person.
@04beni04
@04beni04 2 жыл бұрын
@@obviousness8113 I feel like I should clarify that my previous comment was not meant to deny that others will or should take spiritual value from the Bible, or to imply that there is no value to such documents if I personally don't derive spiritual value from them. Mostly I just meant that the Bible means different things to different people.

During the time I was studying music with a Lutheran music director at a Lutheran church, I saw the movie "The Last Temptation of Christ," a movie that portrayed Jesus as someone who was truly believable as a human. The church's Lutheran minister asked me about the movie, and I told him, "Had I seen it as a child, I'd be a Christian to this day." That was the first thought in my head as I came to fully recognize Stephen's deep humaneness thanks to this interview. There are numerous versions and interpretations of the Bible; Issac Asimov's is one of the most objective. I look forward to the day someone writes an interpreted version from a Stephen Colbert perspective.

Many people don’t know this about Mr. Colbert… Great interview… Notice the date…On September 11, 1974, Colbert’s father and two brothers nearest in age, Paul and Peter, were passengers on a plane making a short flight from Charleston to Charlotte, North Carolina. Eastern Air Lines Flight 212, operating on a small DC-9 plane, had 82 people on board and seemed to be making a routine approach towards Douglas Municipal Airport. The flight never made it to Douglas, crashing three miles shy of its intended runway on a hillside covered with cornfields.

For him to choose the sentence that sums up his philosophy of life "Don't be a dick" says so so SOOOO much about him. Clearly he is just as humble and pleasant as he appears to be on television. I doubt someone... who is a dick, or narcissist, or whatever... would ever come up with that as their sentence to describe their philosophy of life. In fact, those people are the kinds of people who say "you gotta put other people down to bring yourself up"

Go for a walk in the wild or anywhere does relieve a lot of stress and its quite calming. Something i fully agree with with Stephen Colbert. But as a person he shows much of his humanity as he can..

Amazed at the negative comments here. I love this man and he is funny now and he was funny then. If you people had half his talent you would be overflowing with talent!! Sadly you do not. Stephen keep being beautiful.

A few years ago Anderson Cooper interviewed Colbert. It showed a deeper and more somber side of Colbert. If you are a fan you should look it up.

Bro, totally agree about the shrimp. I'm in Taiwan and here you'll get a whole shrimp with the whole shelf still on covered in sauce. Other shellfish too. And I'm the only one here who seems to be outraged
