It’s interesting that Hendry says disagree to the technology question when he is pretty much single handedly opening up snooker to the world of social media and KZfaq. Never mind snooker using technology, snooker needs to take a leaf out of Hendrys book and get some good content out there like this. Break from life is also a great channel to sub too

I thought more of this question like "VAR" etc. Personally i'd like to see technology with regards to ball replacement for example an overhead that shines a coloured circle on the table to represent where a ball was so the ref can replace them without the "left a bit.......right a bit.... etc" nonsense. There would be zero ambiguity too. No arguments. What about ball speed sensors to tell us how hard a player is striking the ball and what about cameras that pin point the place a player struck the cue ball so that they can put a white ball on the screen with a marker indicating exactly where the ball was struck. What about more commentator tools so they can describe a shot and then a computerised image shows you the shot they say. For example if they say pot the long red and cannon this red to leave himself on the black they could tell the computer thats what they want and then it does it and we see it and then it goes back to live and we see the player do it too.

About technological advances I think the most useful would be automating ball replacement after a miss. It could be fully robotic or at least the ball positions could be projected onto the table surface to mark where they were. Both well within the capacity of existing technology. Verbaly navigating the referee by someone looking at a screen seems a bit outdated and inaccurate. They even show the before and after on tv and sometimes it's clearly off. If we can see it on the tv camera, what are they using? And why can't the referee see the screen for themselves, but has to have a middleman? That last one alone should help the accuracy lots.
@TheycallmeMrWonka
@TheycallmeMrWonka 16 күн бұрын
It would take a system designed specifically for it but you'd be able to use a system that utilises red laser dot type markers to quickly get the balls back on their spots. There's a few ways it could be done and id agree that the shouting back n forth is a bit outdated. It does result in the odd amusing moment of confusion though.

Loved the Olympic question! I think one argument against snooker in the olympics might be that it is not a worldwide sport. Snooker is very popular in a few countries - China and the UK in particular - but in most of the world it isn't practised very much. So an Olympic gold in snooker wouldn't really mean that much, in my eyes, because the competitor pool at the Olympics would be pretty much the same as the one in any other tournament.

"Making a 147 is the toughest thing to do in sport": One thing I never understood about snooker, and I never hear mentioned, is that a maximum break of 147, difficult as it may be, is *easier* to achieve than a complete clearance of all reds and, say, yellows (a break of 72). Would snooker be an even more interesting game if the low and high value colour positions were swapped around?

Additionally, could you compare professional snooker tables from the 80s to modern star tables, pocket sizes and table cloth types I believe many people would be interested in watching this video. Regarding the entertainment/sport question. I think the shot clock, 167 et al provide the entertainment. The Masters, World Championship etc provide the intrigue. It’s similar to 20/20 vs test cricket. I have a suggestion for misses as well. Why not rig a laser light network above the table so when a shot likely to result in a miss the lasers are set so when the ball(s) are replaced the laser lights which are above the balls are left lit, this would resolve setting up balls accurately and quickly. Obviously you’d need a hell of a lot of laser lights. Either that or a couple of individual movable laser lights one which always tracks and locks on the cue ball and one for a ball likely to need replacing.

As far as the dress code goes, the players lack a lot of imagination, there is a lot to choose from and there is a lot more than just a flashy waistcoat, a pair of black trousers a white shirt and a black bow tie. There should be some sort of guidance given to help them pick out more stylish formal outfits, a cravat can replace a bow tie, coloured shirts, with complimentary suits, or even an analogous colour scheme. Ditching the formal attire is like letting go of the line on a kite to go higher, without the line it will come crashing down.

Most of the players of today just seem like all they want to wear is black (shoes, trousers, shirt and waistcoat). It was much better years ago. If you watch any old Alex Higgins clips, he never seemed to wear the same thing (shirts and waistcoats) twice. Puts all the modern players to shame. Mind you, most of them play snooker that is just as dull as the lack of colour they wear.

Speaking of technology in the game, whatever happened to the hawk eye that was used a few years back, I thought it was brilliant to get a proper view of the actual shot players were facing, would love to see it back

There definitely needs to be an ease of access to actually watching the sport. Even the possibility to jumps between matches with the click of a button. There's a few ways the sport could be improved from a viewers ease perspective.

the BBC could do a split screen format, where the two matches are side by side on the screen.
