“Force” is imperative. Even if you think it’s not worthwhile - put yourself there. The more you dip your toes the more you can open your mind.

I have stories in my head that never cease, I know them by heart. Heartbreak, depression, and terrible floods of memories come back. I can’t sleep, and I crave certain motions of consumption that would cause more pain and self loathing. Writing seems to be the only redemption in my life. The writers flow is real, just hard to find reason to continue, when everything collapses in repetition.

Stephen King is hugely popular and successful, but he's a blue collar writer's writer. He takes the craft seriously.

Wow, sound is so much better without stupid background ambient, from 0:30

What is the name of the background music? I’ve heard it before but I can’t put a name to it. Enjoyed the way Stephen King described the flow state, btw. This applies to music as well as writing. It’s a powerful place to be.

My biggest pain is forcing myself, and often my critical mind which automatically begins wondering if it can be better! But, indeed, once I offer myself a little trust, and sometimes force myself it takes off. But, the most enjoyable stories to write for me, are ones born when I’m in such a slump, something just pops and it takes off, and doesn’t stop until the finish!

Bish please! King hasn’t written anything as complex & amalgamated as George has with ASOIAF! It’s almost like this book in particular will be even more complicated as the many individual stories are beginning to come together to end. At least there is no reason for concern of fallout if he doesn’t get everything just perfect right?

@@Nenernener123Well said. George's story, characters and world is rich and complex. King could never write or create something like that. I gave up on King when he couldn't even remember his own characters names in The Dark Tower. A completely incompetent and disjointed writer. Terrible. Harold Bloom was spot on with his analysis. People need to understand that King values sheer quantity over quality.

Because of list’s first season making -off , they were quoting different sources of inspiration king being obviously one of thise(Flannery O’Conner is lesser known for her Everythuing that rises must converge). But they give a reference os Steven king’s book Writing »wich is about his work as a writer. And the white number 8 🐇. . And to see the parallels between King’s and novels and life are self explanatory.

Doesn't work same for everyone. I am full of first 20 minutes. I find the real hard time in writing the middle part.

I always said if I wrote a book I would rather have a beginning and an end setup before working on the middle of the story, (if that make sense). I fill like writing between the middle of the story can get tricky sometimes

This is the antidote to perfectionism. Just buckle down and write -- even if it's total crap; incoherent rambling -- just put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, and materialize your thoughts without self-editing. The real writing is rewriting.
