I remember when I bought the paperback Carrie in 1974 at Safeway grocery store and it was written by an author I'd never heard of, but it looked interesting to me. I couldn't put it down and I've been a huge Stephen King fan ever since. I bought "Holly" the other day and I can't wait until it arrives. Thank you Stephen for all your stories over the last 49 or so years. They have enriched my life.

My first Stephen King book was Carrie, and it sealed the deal for me. Almost 30 years later, i am an avid Constant Reader! My first introduction to Holly's character was in his book "The Outsider," and i related to her character in much the same way I related to Carrie as a teenager! Thank you, Mr. King, for writing such brilliant books! 🖤🖤🖤

I love Mr King’s books. Admittedly, I was late to his work, but I started reading his books from 2019. I’ve so far read 20 of his novels and just love his writing. This is quite something, as I was always a reader of non-fiction, and I now read Stephen King’s books religiously almost. He’s an amazing story teller and introduced me to amazing different worlds when I was going through a pretty rough period. Thank you, Mr King! What a remarkable man, and I love the fact that he’s been married so long. Something to aspire to for sure. 👏

Better late than never :-). My dad gave me a Stephen King paperback (wish I remembered which one) when I was 10. Little did he know he was creating a rabid fan. Holly is one of my favorite King character, as well as many of his other female characters. Read on!

I went to a book signing in London when I was 13 and got the guy there to sign a piece of paper that I ended up putting in a tatty edition of The Exorcist. About 35 years later I was leafing through the book and out fell this piece of paper, which to my gargantuan surprise was autographed by Stephen King.

Having watched MANY Stephen King interviews and writing craft inputs here and there over the years, no offense to GMA nor Mr. Strahan but this interview was rather overly simplistic without depth into the world of "Holly" as I had originally thought it might be. I already knew about how "Carrie" came to life upon the $400,000-tag for it (according to Google & Inflation Calculator, that would equate to about $2,700,000 in 2023 due to inflation) and how his wife Tabitha suggested he continue with it; the hair dryer he bought for her; and how he's written over 60 novels (all best sellers)...so forth. (Most King fans and followers could tell you the same.) I was hoping this interview would say how many copies he managed to sell today (alone), or his thoughts on other works he anticipates for as published novels or short stories in the near-future, etc. Jus sayin'...
@FBrigdon
@FBrigdon 11 ай бұрын
I agree except for the fact that we were not really the intended audience for this interview. GMA plays to a more generalized (ie, not fannish) audience than we are so many of them don't know the same info we do. Still, despite its general nature, this interview highlighted one of Mr. King's most outstanding qualities (besides his mastery of narrative): he is a really nice person.

Actually, I was just reading about the development of Polio vaccines in South Africa and the democratic Republic of the Congo and how sourcing Monkey liver in his Congo caused a cross contamination of monkey hiv (SIV CPZ) that had been the precursor of the Aids epidemic today. Hiv is difficult to see even under atomic microscopy (which I was trained in under the national curriculum) but basically it's a parasitic ameobic virus. There are lots of ways in which the white settlers in the democratic Republic of the congo were taken unaware and basically when preparing the live cultures they had no idea they were. Ross contaminating and basically I saw a lot of footage of the staff being exposed during work. There was another big Polio hospital in Reitfontein. As for the Cold Case Hammerskjold villain Maxwell, his old clinic used to be in Southend benoni near the river. There's this old care graveyard up the road and a gold pawning shop over the road.

Lifelong King fan here but I gotta tell ya: he began back in '15 with a few light jabs at Trump's leadership that were amusing...hate to admit it, but this is the work where he's finally allowed his politics to bubble over way too much into the prose. I read fiction to escape from the headlines. Every single character who even vaguely supports the Trump administration is positively skewered. I'm about halfway through; fingers crossed there's a decent (and nonpartisan) conclusion.

Exactly, I don't agree with King on politics, but this is the first time that he got way too far up his own a@@, he put his agendas or lectures above the story. It really got annoying and I plan on returning my copy to Amazon because I will never read this again.

King has turned into a bitter old boomer who can't seem to keep modern politics out of his work. His constant mention of Trump, right wingers etc... is tiresome. A really good book should be timeless, but none of his new stuff will survive or exist on shelves next to Pet Sematary, Salem's Lot, etc.. I want to like his new stuff, but his hatred of people that don't agree with him pulls me right out of the story. If I want politics I'll just turn on the idiot box and watch crap like Good Morning America or look at my phone.

There's a place in Arkansas called 'Smackover' out of El Dorado. It's from the French Sumac Ouvre but all the signs say 'Smackover.' Smackover Classic Dress Shop. Smackover Little League. First Baptists At Smackover. Bank of Smackover. Smackover library. Smackover Oil Rigs. I guess the level crossing doesn't have any lights or something. Man I never was so scared in my whole life: "where are the kids? How did they get out to the high school?" I guess they don't have anything to say. In my head the Smackover Soap Opera was brutal and had that southern twang you know. Life imitating hell imitating art.

Oh my gosh New Orleans. I guess they gave up windows and long skirts for lent or something. It's got this very religious scenery I guess it lends an elegance to the scene that detracts from the general creepiness of the bayou . There's a feeling of huge moment there which is awesome and historical I guess. Maybe it enables my perpetual game of delusion too much you know. You could have a really picturesque scenery to your fantasy life in that city. If...no one knew you were doing that lol

He was amazing when his entire life wasn't about hating Trump and more than half of Americans. This book was ruined by him forcing his ignorant political views through the main character. There is no way that someone as smart as Holly would be so blind to reality. He destroyed one of his best characters.

He's not a supermarket romance novelist? Just because he says do? Come on. Every single Stephen King book is a romance book. But he just adds horror elements to make sure that they're not. Then he claims to be supernatural. Nope. Still romance. Take Carrie for instance. Well no bad example because his wife wrote that. Cat's Eye. How would you not consider that romance? Because he added a demon? Wasn't even a huge part of the movie. No. Sorry. Romance novelist.
