Stephen Malkmus is the only person who can make that shirt look good. He is so cool, yet very human, which makes him that much cooler. Plus he’s never had to have trendy hair, or grow a beard to prove his point. He just is who he is, and that’s a good thing.
@andypartridge8936

Exactly! When I first saw him wearing that shirt last year I wondered where he got it ..I wanted one. But it would never look as good on me. He's the Prince Rogers Nelson of 'indie'

KesselRunHero If that’s a trendy haircut, then Stephen Malkmus is definitely a trendsetter! He’s pretty much had the same hairstyle for as long as I can remember. He’s the type of guy to wear a shirt because he likes it, not because he thinks other people will like it. I’m pretty sure his marketing strategies focus more on his music, not which shirt to wear. I mean, he sure can write a song.

@@cactaceous I've heard it all. I'm from upstate but did college and grad in the city. I feel bad for most of my cohort who can't even afford to live in the city where they are from. I could at least split a studio with my GF in Park Slope for about $1300 back then and later lived in a rent control in Harlem on a 3-way split at $500 each. I don't know how people do it? If I had to move back I'd be looking at Brighton Beach, Coney Island, Howard Beach-somewhere deep. But I'm a the stage of my life where I'd rather live in Alaska or Montana than any sh*thole city which after a while almost become indiscernible once the glitter wears off.

“This isn’t my guitar…”. Killed it for the most part on a friggin’ Fender acoustic not set up for him, and likely just not set up. The parts that didn’t fit in “killed it” were legitimately the instrument. Just fret buzz, etc. Even lacking the confidence from familiarity can be brutal. I’d be frozen worried about that, trying to slide my hand on a fresh glossy neck, and cutting my fingers on sharp fret ends… seriously, a Fender acoustic is what you handed him? His ability to adjust with his older voice is incredible, too. Maybe even sounds better. He always looks like he doesn’t care, but when you listen and watch, every detail matters to him when he’s making music. Grew out of those early Pavement days (that I still love). Just a brilliant human that’s made my life better.
