Castle's change of gears is fun to watch. He's far ahead of Dejounte Murray as a "pg" at the same age

The only reason DJ slid down to the 29th pick was his character and bad reputation outside the court. Spurs still couldn't pass up on him because of his talent alone, he was projected a lottery pick just basketball wise outside of his legal problems and relation to gangs. Castle is the exact opposite outside the court and just character wise on the court. And yes Caslte is more mature with the ball in his hands, more aware of game situations, more unselfish. Offensively they're different and right now Castle shows more potential on that end, Dejounte Murray mostly scored in transition. And even defensively DJ only guarded PGs and SGs, if guarding bigger guys translates to the nba Castle will definitely be more versatile defensively, he's obviously stronger and is ahead of Murray in some aspects, like verticality, not sure on lateral movement though. Not sure that DJ could have staken a step back for Victor Wembanyama to develop. So yeah he's absolutely a better fit for San Antonio in every possible way.

Castle was so lucky to be coached by Hurley and now to be mentored by Popovich/CP3. Add all that to his positional size, strength and bball IQ and you have a star in the making. At the very least, he will be in an All Defensive Team soon.

@6:45 - Thank you for breaking this all down. Your first film study clip opened my eyes to the fact that Stephon Castle absolutely has to improve his jump shot to be effective within this offense. With every center backing into the Baseline not worried about his jump shot will clog our offensive rhythm and not allow Wemby to flourish on that side of the ball. He doesn't need an excellent three-point shot but this shows that he definitely needs an elite midrange shot. GSG!

On that turnover when he's passing up on that shot Kevin Trevino told him "shoot it" and he started to let them fly afterwards, so I'm not as concerned as you are and that's exactly what Gregg Popovich is going to tell him all season long, he'll want him to shoot it everytime he's open. He's not going to turn that ball over twice, if he doesn't shoot the next one he's getting benched. But I think that Castle understands, it's just a bit in the realm of the unkown for him so to speak. He also took more 3s his less hesitation against China and sometimes he had a bit less space than on those early looks in the first game.

Summer league spurs actually better without him In the line up.. his lack of floor spacing and need to have the ball to be effective is a detriment with wemby … I honestly think his ceiling is role player in the nba .. not impressed with his summer league

Spurs didn't trade Dillingham, they traded that pick. This "should've kept Dillingham" talk is useless because they most likely wouldn't have drafted him even if they kept the pick. Also they were able to sign CP3 & trade for Harrison Barnes because they traded that pick.
