I had a Concord car stereo with Marantz 6x9 co-axial speakers in my ‘79 Camaro. Loved the sound.

Big difference in the Ads, more color, less text in just 6 yrs! Yeah, everything was black plated. I still have my Denon turntable DPL-62, the Nakamichi BX-300 and until last year a pair of ADS LS-400s. Thanks for the great video and the great effort of sharing all those great ads that we used to look on magazines and dream about it.

I own a 1983 Accuphase P66 power amp, which is technical perfect to this day and the look is not outdated. Expensive in its day, a timeless piece and worth quite a bit today. Looking at the 80's ads brought back memories of that time, where I was a kid, the start of the CD 'era'. Still, most of that gear looks so 80's and outdated....consumable electronics... Enjoyed this vid, thank you, you did a great job.

Great Vid Series. Really takes me back. Love your sense of humor (monkey coffin speaker cabnets 😂). BTW- I found Sanyo to be a real rip-off. Have you heard of Superscope? In the 70's I had both the amp and cassette deck. They were inexpensive but highly proficient. Looking forward to your future Vids!!! 😎

Great Video, the JVC advertisement on the R-X500 receiver is quite cool. I have one in good condition, it is a very unique and high tech receiver. Screens and buttons still work well on mine.

This was excellent! The memories of thumbing through my Dads Stereo Review mag sunscription and there always being at least 5 issues in the bathroom growing up! 😊

Wow, some great ads there Scott. I drooled over Polk speakers in the late 80's & early 90's. My first receiver was a Harmon Kardon bought in 1986 from The Appliance Store along with Boston Acoustic speakers. My brother went with an Onkyo Integra and JBL speakers. We used to have loudness wars in our house trying to out-do each other and I'd win on accuracy but he'd win on plain brute force party house loudness. It drove my parents crazy. lol. I eventually went with an Onkyo Integra and then purchased Carver AL speakers in 1990. Those speakers are still in my McIntosh system today. Looking forward to your next walk down memory lane. Oh, and we ripped out the factory Bose system in our 1995 Nissan 300ZX and thru in an Alpine Head unit with Polk Speakers. It was a little too bright for my taste but enjoyed it none the less. Keep em' comin' my friend.

I had the GEN 2 Yamaha CD player, lasted until 2004. Early 90s had the Carver magnetic field amp, Polk speakers as big as a person, each, a 12 inch Velodyne Sub, and a Sony dual servo-motor record tracking turntable, with a real heavy base and gel in the feet.

The Electro Voice Interface D sold for $1500/pair back around 1980 (I still have the audio mag that featured them). There is now a pair on Ebay selling for $4000. I wouldn't pay close to that for a a pair of speakers over 40 years old.

Rotel was big in Germany in the 1980s. It was equivalent to Pioneer in Germany at the time.

By 1984 my home stereo stuff was a 1979 Sansui G4500 bought in 1979, Altec Lancing speakers bought in 1978, a Craig 8 track player-recorder(still had 8 track in drinking car), a BIC turntable from 1977, an actually nice Radio Shack cassette deck and Radio Shack headphones. Used to buy Radio Shack tapes etc. as it was handy and a nice person ran the store. Graduated college in 1982 (the worst for unemployment filings) and was working four part time jobs to get by. For the most part the economy was bad and moving out of parents home. Not much extra to be on top of the best. Got a Marantz 2238b for money owed. Like a dummy gave away the Sansui and Marantz around 2000 and kept a 1990s Kenwood that had a CD with it. I think I gave away the wrong receivers.

For the past 10 years or so I’ve been rocking a 1978 NAD 3060 Power amplifier along with a 1978 JVC fully automatic turntable I think it’s an SL 3600 but I’m not sure. Got both of them very cheap not working and made the necessary repairs. The amplifier I got for 20 bucks at a Goodwill and that thing really rocks my POLK audio speakers. NAD amplifiers had so much headroom. One of their most popular integrated amplifiers was only rated at 20 W per channel, but was very underrated. That thing was probably putting out closer to 60 W per channel but that’s just how they did it back then. my 3060 is rated at 60 W RMS per channel and again very underrated. I just laugh when I see modern cheap gear that says 1000 W per channel which is complete utter garbage. I want to go back to the old days of analog audio.

A friend of mine had an Alpine CD player for her car in the late 90s. It was a good product, except for the fact that it would not play CD-R media. My first CD player was purchased in 1984 and was a component to connect to the stereo system. It was made by Sony and it can play the CR-R media just fine and that media did not even exist when the player was made. I would by CDs and then make copies( in the mid 90s) to use in the car keeping the originals safe with my home system. I think thr Alpine blocked the CR-Rs because of pressure from content providers that people were stealing content by making copies.

I brought around in early 1980's Yamaha receiver that had 90 watts per channel with was first for this and a build in equalizer. Wow great sound receiver ,paid $700.00 which was alot on money then.

If you had a serious home theater in the 80's and 90's a Laserdisc player was a must. The first AC3 and DTS formats could be utilized. When DVD came out, DTS had too much bandwidth for DVDs. When BLURAY came out it was over. Thank God for laserdisc. Moreover, you could buy a firstrun movie for $35.00. To buy a lesser quality, VHS movie, they were Priced for Rent at $99.00.

It was mid 80's when audio magazines REALLY boomed. Stereo Review became rife with ads by 1985. I quickly learned to dislike the Japanese mass-fi speakers back then. "Turbo bass" with LED power lights. Thump and sizzle. UGH.

I had the Mission Cyrus 1 amp (Heavily modded it with external psu). Also a Technics SL-7 linear tracking TT. They're still out there. My Scottish friend Jim just "blagged" one and an SL-10 also! No mention of KEF (had the Cantor 2), or Musical Fidelity (A1)? Linn?? Naim??? 🎵🎶🤫🎶🎵

You have a HUGE gap in the "Year" videos, from 1960 all the way to 1978! Why not do something between 1965 - 1970? Lots of great ger in that era!

My memory recalls Jenson as always being laughable in car audio. Mediocre probably the word im looking for.

I hate segmenting decades. Life is more analog. 1979 is not that much different than 1980 or even 1984....sure the landscape changed but so did a lot more. Everyone was "done" with the silverface era and ready for "digital" and black panels. We had such a hell of a time selling anything silver in 1984 even if better than the black stuff. Just the nature of the era.
