Nice :) I have factory speakers with a Pioneer GM D1004 amp. I originally wanted a car-puter type thing but it spends 90% of the time with my phone plugged into the amp over a 3.5mm jack. I'm struggling with the power on/off, boot/shutdown on a computer - and the phone works surprisingly well.

@@CraigManning you had easy removal head unit, I had the full sat nav, amp set up top spec with the fibre optic canbus security, so I got a digital ac moved the wires from the harness under drivers footwell to the centre console area and bought a d din fascia fitted a dab double din pioneer cd/dvd Bluetooth, USB, kids able to watch films when driving and re wired and changed all the cars speakers and added two amps one to run x3 10s in the boot. Your model of stereo and amp is a lot easier to do and get whatever you want in, if you do some research 1st. Trust me :) cool video

Ah excellent! That's what I had for a while. For a Pi set up something like this: www.hifiberry.com/shop/boards/hifiberry-amp2/ would work as an amp. I found power was a problem. I used one of these: amzn.to/3FFpVbD to get a clean 5v from the potentially noisy 12v car aux line. However my aux line turns of when I start the car, so it would power on, start to boot then the power would cut. Could be solved with a battery or something? Currently I use a Pioneer GM-D1004 amzn.to/3UfuI7G and a bluetooth adapter to connect my phone.

@@CraigManning Thank you for the speedy response. I've almost finished the planning process, with only a few wrinkles left to iron out. Is there any other advice you can provide me given that we use the same car?

@@markjagodzinski1850 That looks like it would do the job. I wouldn't call my build a success but it kinda worked for a bit😂 I used one of these: amzn.to/3SYxu03 and the standard pi touch screen.... If i remember correctly the screen is almost the same height and a bit narrower than this bezel. The breakout cable would allow connection of a standard stereo or an easier means to get power out and put signal in 😀 Happy building, hope it goes well!

Not sure, mine worked with just an amp connected, so the removal of the original didn't cause problems. I did try testing it before reconnecting the heater part and it gave a few errors on the dash .. I remember a fuel one on the OBD as well but I didn't try the heaters. Did you ever try it with the old out but not connecting the new one?

@@CraigManninggreat video. Could u help me, the connectors to the old unit was 2. But the touch screen has 1 connector. I dont have anything to plug into it
