My teenage brother and his friends were musicians working musicians. They played in clubs around Chicago behind groups like The Emotions,The Staple Singers and others . They would leave school come over our house practice and get ready to go to the clubs to play. My mom was the manager of the band and when the set was over the boys would leave at about 2:00 in the morning turn around and go to school at 7:00 or 8:00. Well they used different slang like “my axe” which means my instrument. Another one “man my old bird was getting on my case. “Old bird “ means my mom. Another “ man I gotta go to the crizib “ I gotta go home. It was such an interesting time the early 1970. When the band practice everyone would be on their porch or in front of our house.
