At college, he was a manager for the Harvard Crimson football team, and lived down the hall from fellow sophomore Bill Gates.
2. Get in the weight room
He scored highly in the William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition.
3. Carpe diem
He worked as an assistant product manager at Procter & Gamble for two years.
4. Stay optimistic
In 1980, he dropped out of the Stanford Graduate School of Business to join Microsoft.

My favorite was "learn how to tell a story". Daniel Pink said, "If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a metaphor is worth a thousand pictures". I started writing short stories that convey a certain message and telling a story can really give your message a stronger kick. Thanks for the awesome video, Evan!

Story telling is required to succeed. This is where it's important to balance onself between humanistic skills and the technical. Or you need to partner with people who mirror the quality you are deficient in. But for a CO, it's important to have a good deal of both. Often more on the people skills. Steve is the only uber-successful man to discuss luck! It IS of absolute importance. People don't like to be adherent to such an idea because it's beyond their control. But that doesn't mean you can't leverage it. If you know anything about luck, then you know you can play the odds, especially if you're into math or statistics. You have to make your own luck. Which also leads to "Seizing the day". The more you seize, the more chances you have.

I loved the idea he had on #6 - a "10Q" for the federal government. That would be really something. Public companies are required to have that level of transparency each quarter, it would make sense for our government to be held to the same standard. And he's right about storytelling. In any field, if you can't clearly and succinctly say what happened and why it matters, you won't get far.

First of all because I'm from Seattle's neighbor, Tacoma, Washington, "Go Huskies!" I believe Seattle is the city of education - and the Seahawks!! I was touches when he got choked up. Shows he is human. "Story telling". I thought since my business was all about the famous founder. He and his name was gold. But he saw my hard work and determination and said, " take the business. You are why it's a success and it is your calling". He just gave me everything, equipment, his spare bedroom for an office, everything. I have been telling his story, not mine. So, because if Evan and the BelieveNation I am writing MY story. We will see what happens with it soon. Thanks all of you for opening my eyes!

I think Steve Balmer is an interesting guy who is often overshadowed by Bill Gates. I liked the one about telling stories. I often feel like that is something I struggle with. Articulating my vision in a way others will find it interesting.

He actually has a great understanding of things. I work in marketing analytics. One of the main tenents is using data to tell a story. Marketing had become a beast and Big Data has taken over as well. The mixture of these two literally demands that companies tell good stories. You cannot ignore the need of emotional connection when it comes to customers. They want to be a part of said stories. The more you resonate with people on an emotional level, the more you succeed.
