Cropper and Dunn, you may not know them by name but you damned sure know them by ear! They were responsible for some of the best music from the 60's and 70's.

The blues brothers..best thing that ever came out of SNL.

I was 16 when The Blues Brothers came out. That movie and the musicians in it changed me, I have probably seen it 100 times now, it's still great every time. Later in life I teched for a guitar player friend, every show I used a line at the beginning and end from the movie. Pre show, "chicken wire?" and after show, "let's get the hell out of here".

Steve used to spend a lot of time at my home as a child writing songs with my father. He was always such a nice guy

I was at a Blues club in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida called The Musicians Exchange (no longer there, sadly) and in 1986, Matt "Guitar" Murphy was the headliner and I swear to God, Steve, Donald "Duck" Dunne and a few other members of The Blues Brothers Band were on stage with him (sans Belushi and Akroyd, obviously. They rocked the house down and the event was unforgettable.

I’m from Chicago and grew up 8 miles from John Belushi. The Blues Brothers gave our city so much pride.

I think the most amazing part of this interview is that Paul McCartney hired John Belushi to do his Joe Cocker imitation from National Lampoon's "Lemmings" show and album. That just blows my mind.

Mr. Cropper was the real talent behind Murph and the Magictones.

I heard in an interview with Dan Ackroyd that John was not into the blues and R&B, Dan was. John was more of a hard rock fan. So glad he decided to give the blues a try, created a career defining character.

This is not only music history -- it's U.S. History.

Cropper is the coolest. I'd love to hang out with him over a few drinks. What a legendary talent.

I was a kid when they made Briefcase Full of Blues and the Blues Brothers movie, Animal House etc, might have been a bit before my time but it certainly had an effect on my sense of humor and music choices later, my high school girlfriends older brother in law who was 38 was just as crazy as Belushi and hilarious as hell, he impacted my sense of humor as much as John and Dan did, loved John Candy and the SCTV crew as well, I still refer to the B.B's as the Good Ol Blues Brothers Boys band even though it was the Good Ol Boys they mocked in the movie lol. Still have my BCFOB album, got rid of all my albums from the old days but kept that and Cheech and Chong and Sinatra, Bennett and those types of albums.

God Bless Joe Chambers, I miss him. When I need to get some motivation, I watch one of Joes interviews, always works. Thanks Joe

I've lived in Eugene since 72. Use to see Salgado and Cray at Taylor's all the time for a buck. Had some friends that were extras in the film. I've heard some pretty wild stories about Belushi's time here in Eugene.

In 1996 I was a caddie at Valhalla country Club in Louisville KY. One Day morning I had the pleasure of caddying for Mr. Cropper and he was a very nice and congenial guy and we or I should say I enjoyed caddying for him very much .

Saw the Blues Brothers at the Hollywood Bowl and was taken aback by the 'backup' band because the entire show was done more professionally and was more fun than many of the popular concerts making the circuit at the time. We thought it would be just an SNL goof-off gig, but the evening went by so fast and done so well that I came away with greater respect for how versatile Akroyd and Belushi were. Timing, vocals, dance routines, audience participation...it had it all! Soul Man and Rubber Biscuit.

Steve Cropper is an American Guitar Icon in the same class as Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, etc. His playing is wonderfully soulful, too. The other members of Booker T and the MG's, like Duck Dunn, Alan Jackson Jr. and of course Booker T. Jones are American Icons, too. What seminal recordings these cats played on.

Grew up listening to the radio from Chicago, Nashville, and Mexico. We had no TV. I really identified with Mr Cropper talk about learning songs that way.

John Belushi stayed at Bobby Dunn's( Duck's brother) house in Memphis doing some pre-production for the movie. My friend, Brad Dunn was a teen. Maybe 13 and was in charge of getting Belushi around to where he needed to be. Belushi drove his Mercedes and Brad rode shotgun. He has great stories but I'll leave it up to him to share if he wants to.

Steve Cropper and that beautiful voice, and I always remember an interview with him saying "for me.. going to Stax was like going to church..".

I've lived and worked in the entertainment industry in Nashville for 21 years and I can say this with the absolute most certainty....There is no name dropped more often by industry insiders than the Colonel...I had a chance to build a piece of audio imaging for a radio segment for Steve...I was in a true creative panic...How can I make a proper introduction to an audience for who is one of THE foundational bricks in Modern Pop Music? I was given a month notice and I worked on it for weeks...Making sure I had the right hooks and drops and Steve to convey the greatness that is Cropper...I have a series of Get Smart doors in my Rock & Roll brain...The more doors you open, the more impressed I am with your knowledge...Steve Cropper is the last door...SO! I make this Segment Intro for "Pickin' with Steve" where he picks game winners for the weekend, tells stories, brings on Dave Mason...shit like that...I'm not at all happy with my results...I didn't think it was good at all...I hated it and wanted to go back and redo it completely...I refused to even listen to it on the air, tuning in after the TOH so I'd miss it on purpose...About a week or so later, I'm playing golf with my PD and he gets a text, asks me if I sent that MP3 of the Intro to Steve...I worried it was to say "THIS SUCKS! DO IT AGAIN!", but I was told that Steve Cropper thought what I made was one of the better produced pieces of audio he had heard and it is now his ringtone...I don't care if he was being sincere, (which if you ever spent time with him, he was) or just being nice, but I no longer care if anything I do in my career is good enough. Ratings or fans will never mean more to me than Steve Cropper having my Imaging as his ringtone.

The Blues Brothers actually started while John & Dan were filming Animal House in Eugene, OR. and caught the house band at BJ Kelly's with Robert Cray & Curtis Salgato. The first time they performed the group on Saturday Night Live, they credited Robert & Curtis, but that faded into history.

When he talked about `it could take a week` getting word to someone and, the waiting. Looking back we did a whole heck of a lot of waiting. if not in traffic on the freeway, waiting to not get a busy signal for the 14th time trying to get a hold of so and so. I guess from all that waiting, once we got the go-ahead, we were off and running. and we were all looking to bum some money cause we were all broke more or less. the good old days huh

I was 11 when the Blues Brothers movie was released, easily in my top ten favorite films.

My favorite thing about Steve Cropper is his playing. My second favorite thing is how he almost always refers to himself in the third person.

I have a memory of Mr. Steve Cropper, the year was sometime between 1996 or 97 I was a caddie at the famed Valhalla CC in Louisville KY. While attending Culinary School at Sullivan University there. I was paired with Mr. Cropper as we were out on the course he asked if I could get him some Beer, I suppose the night before he had been out to a handful of bars and tied one on pretty good. I got on the walkie talkies they supplied to us caddies, I called up to the club house, had them bring a sixer down. After the round was over as good gentlemen he tipped me $1000.00 his company and stories where a welcome change to the snobbish pros I had bagged for previously.
