In this episode Steve sits down to talk with "the man who taught Statto everything he knows..." It is, of course, Phil Yates, the well-known and respected snooker journalist and commentator of many years.

Yes. He's been doing it a long time. He does pool on Sky as well.

Respected commentator might be a touch strong - those toe-curlingly bad puns he makes any time he's on comms make me wince. That said given how Shaun Murphy is on commentary, Phil has become somewhat bearable. Something I never thought I'd be able to say.

Yes he can be a bit much sometimes but you can't fault his knowledge or love of the game.

@@SnookerBreakNo chance would I do that - he wouldn't be doing this for so long otherwise so he does deserve respect in that sense. As long as he reins himself in, he can be fine.

Always enjoy Phil Yates, a good snooker man. He looks like a cross between Ronnie and John Parrott here!

I've detested every word that he has ever uttered whilst commentating on snooker. A thoroughly objectionable man who must know how much he is loathed, yet keeps on annoying everyone with his comments. I now mute the TV whenever he's on, truly awful.

Not a fan then ? I find him alright as a whole , his enthusiasm for the game is unquestioned
