I met Steve in 1980 during his Defector tour. He played my classical guitar at the gig. Got to hang out with the band a bit. He was just as he is now. A stellar guitarist/ writer. Highly creative and intelligent and down to earth. Will always be one of my favorite players. And yes I still have that guitar..

Steve, in the unlikely chance that you read this, definitely keep doing 'Can Utility and the Coastliners'! It really is one of the most underrated Genesis songs in that era and maybe even of all time. It's very powerful and more people need to hear it. So keep planting the seed. The more you play it, the more people will get turned on to it. It's my personal favorite song on Foxtrot for sure. 🥂

Steve is the only one keeping the classic Genesis spirit alive, it's a privilege to have him still touring and playing so brilliantly the classic music of Genesis before they became an MTV product in the 80s! Saw him live once and can't wait to see him again God willing.

The lamb is a masterpiece and Steve’s contribution was incredible. There are some beautiful guitar solos that really contain Steve’s influence.

'Hoping Love Will Last' is a masterpiece sung by Randy Crawford who is so underrated. Big in UK & Europe and virtually unknown in the USA. Guitar sounds like sax on many parts of HLWL

I love all the Genesis guys, and Steve is just a wonderful person for keeping the great Genesis prog era in the public eye. And of course his solo work has delighted me for decades. Steve is always a good interview. He is so open and honest about his career--and his memory goes back a long way.

Steve's interviews are so much more approachable and relatable than other Genesis members. Interesting what he said about Lennon saying Genesis were true sons of the Beatles. If they had more and better press coverage they could have been just as popular.

Interesting, intelligent guy. The Moonlit Knight solo is one of a kind along with many fine moments throughout his career.

11:28 Roine Stolt had the Variax guitar that some people don't seem to like but I love the sound on that Liverpool version of Coastliners. The bass pedals were HUGE! It was a key treat on the Foxtrot at 50 tour.

A reunion to perform the Lamb is incomprehensible. But, otoh, getting together with recreation artists, The Musical Box, to do it with Hackett and Gabriel, could be a logistical possibility. All hands on deck, the additional players would figure out the parts.

I always learn so much from Steve. He is a great teacher if you are a diehard fan of the Original Genesis. Which I am ✌️🤟🙏🖖😊

Brian Eno came in and did some "treatments" , great notion, that is what Eno does. I been a fan of him since Roxy. Of whom I am a big fan. Especially of course Bryan. Will see Roxy in three weeks in Austin, 50th Anniversary tour. Should be interesting.

My wife and I saw Steve back in May in Seattle. It was definitely a bucket list moment. They were truly amazing.

Steve more relaxed than in the previous one. Enjoyable interview - three cheers for Steve. These days I often think about artists performing other people's work (either at the time or now) wouldn't the Hackett Band performing 'In The Court of The Crimson King' be just fantastic.

It's interesting that the printed line "Enossification by Brian Eno" has been removed from the vinyl album cover of The Lamb. This was present from 1974 until recently. It was great that you asked him what Eno contributed. Cheers.

It makes me so happy that Steve clearly still loves all of the weird, quirky old Genesis material, even when the rest of them have seemed keen to leave it behind.

I have been a stalwart Steve Hackett fan since he departed Genesis, and a Genesis fan before that. So that's a span of almost 50 years for me at least since 1974. I have read during that time, and listened to in the last 20 years to every article/ internet interview of Steve's and Genesis, too! Amazingly, this interview brought out some new answers to classic, older music! Great interview!

Collins is done. No way could a full Genesis re-union happen. I would like to see Steve and Peter with other musicians outside of Genesis.

A note to the interviewer - I do not know your name, though I really appreciate your inquiry into Brian Eno's involvement with 'The Lamb'. I have heard a few different accounts on this subject and always wondered why he was not credited on liner notes on the album. Your interview on this subject helped clarify some of this for me. i recently watched this video and Steve Hackett`s story about Brian Eno was interesting. Now Eno is again involved in the new Peter Gabriel-album - before this on "Love to be Loved" with Gabriel on his album "Us". Brian Eno is all around he also teamed up with Jean-Michel Jarre on at least one track of his latest album.

In all the interviews I've seen with Genesis members, current and previous, Tony Banks is the guy that strikes me as the stumbling block in a real reunion. He seems very bitter about the 5 piece days, not just with Hackett and Gabriel, but with the atmosphere in general. I can't picture him and Gabriel sharing a stage.

Love the section on Zappa! He was an "impresario" as Steve calls him.

So glad I got to see him after all these years here in Cincinnati, a couple of months ago at the Taft theater. I've seen him with Genesis, my senior year of high school, spring of 1977. We saw them in Nashville during the wind and wuthering tour.

I always hear new things in interviews like this! On the topic of Pete Gabriel & Atlantic Records, I'm pretty sure it was in the book Genesis-- Chapter & Verse (attention, Fact Checkers!) that Ahmet Ertegun said he was out of town when Pete's contract was cancelled & it was another Atlantic exec who did the deadly deed. By the time Ahmet was back in the office, Mercury had already signed up to issue PG 3 in the US.

What an absolute legend. Nice to hear an artist speaking freely, candidly and honestly about music in general. The unanswered question for me will always be what would Genesis have been like if he had stayed with the band and ran his solo career alongside as Phil and Mike did very successfully. If he'd stayed for two more albums would more of his ideas have been used and therefore would have secured his future with the band? We will never know. Good luck with Foxtrot at 50, looking forward to the show in Bath and listening to Can Utility and of course Supper's Ready.

Steve Hackett is one of those musicians that the general public arent too aware of, but his influence within the music industry and amongst his peers is elite. Hackett is certainly in my top 12 guitarists from the Uk - and there have been quite a few monsters to emerge from that this small region. (McLaughlin, Beck, Iommi, Gilmour, Page, Moore, Knopfler, Clapton, May, Hackett, Holdsworth, Gallagher - no particular order)

I was gutted when Steve left Genesis, then I went to his early tours (That white suited opener, iconic) - I sat in a Stoke-on-Trent venue, and I thought 'You know what, I'm a SH fan now!' even after all those Genesis concerts - Now I've been to more Steve concerts than Genesis - off next month

Unfortunately Phil can never play drums again. But my dream (which will probably never come true) would be a reunion of Peter, Steve, Tony and Mike with Nic Collins(!) on drums (with the blessing of his father), performing the "Lamb"! And then recording one last NEW studio album in the style of the "Big 5" during their unforgettable years. With Phil doing the song´s arrangements, which was one of his many strength. One might dream... 😏

The Everly Brothers served as my inventors of Rock and Roll. I was about 4 when my parents bought us a record player and one of the 45s they bought to play on it was Bird Dog. I played it over and over for days on end.

Great interview. I wonder if Steve could be persuaded to release the Blu-ray for the Seconds Out concert as a stand-alone item without the CDs. I know he did this with at least one previous release and I'm mostly interested in the Blu-ray. (And thank goodness there is a Blu-ray and not just the DVD. 😁)

As far as the roots of rock go Chuck Berry said a huge influence on him was Sister Rosetta Tharpe she is absolutely a truly amazing guitarist and singer Elvis was influenced as well as countless others great videos of her on KZfaq the Queen of rock and roll . Rosetta was inducted in the rock hall of fame in 2017 she should have been one of the first entry watch her she is incredible
