I listened to this during my 2 month long psychotic BPD meltdown. I’m not sure if Steve Lacy wrote those lyrics with the intent of relating it to BPD, but it described every single one of my thoughts almost perfectly. Listening to this again after I got psychiatric help months later and I still could feel my emotions at full force. A beautiful song that reminds me of one of the darkest times in my life.

It's the chord progression. Always ending with a minor chord which sounds depressing. Also the synth he uses makes it kinda uneasy. And the lyrics "something bad's about to happen" is just such a negative pessimistic lyric. Steve Lacy is a talented genius

This perfectly captures the feeling you have in a relationship right before you're broken up with someone you're in love with. You feel an unknowing dread and are scared of the messages you're getting from your partner while also scared that you won't get another one from them. At the same time, you're questioning and overthinking everything, including if anything is wrong at all. And through it all, you're desperately clinging onto the relationship, or maybe just the idealized version of it you have in your head not just because you love the person you're with but because you dont want to go to the crushing loneliness of solitude that being single so often entails. It's such a beautiful song that's somehow both melancholic and hopeful at the same time.
