Description:The Ball Family Reserve Luke 3 features an alder body with mahogany tone block and figured maple top. The roasted and figured maple neck is adorned with pearl fret markers and finished with gunstock oil and wax. The guitar is offered with DiMarzio pickups in HH and HSS configurations and a 15 dB gain boost comes standard.

true story here: I knew nothing of Steve Lukather and very little about Toto or Music Man. One day I walked into a guitar center to buy a Les Paul, I was set. Tried many many guitars, I was disappointed I didn't fall in love with any of the ones I tried, countless gibsons, many fenders, PRS. I was about to leave the store defeated until I saw this fender-looking strat type guitar hanging with a price tag a bit over what I wanted to spend but I said what the heck, lets try it. This guitar was a Music Man Luke 3 HH. The moment I tried it I felt different, I was actually feeling the guitar as an extension of my arm, im pretty sure my accuracy, speed and feel improved instantly, at least it felt that way. I kept playing and I couldn't believe my hands, this was indeed the finest instrument I had ever laid hands on, it just felt right, like it was built for me. I bought the guitar that day, and now 7 years later I still enjoy my Luke 3 like it was that first moment at GC. Now of course I know a lot about Steve's work and magical talent (bought his records since) and Im a music man fan for life. Thank you Music Man and Steve for making a great instrument, my instrument.

true story here:I have MANY LES PAUL AND FENDER BUT NOW I ONLY PLAY L3 BRF . WHY？ the neck can make me play all day if i play my les paul ................10min i will stop......... luke 3 is the best guitar

The Cantrell Project Just the same i feel with mine. :_) You described it perfectly.. and mine is the Luke 1, with 2 Single and 1 Humbucker active pickup, but is THE guitar.. the touch, the sound.. i always say it has soul, it's like magic..

Are you familiar with the neck of the Petrucci models? I play one of those and the neck is amazing, and I'm afraid this neck won't be that comfortable. I've read is a some kind of a V neck...

Yep, it's not the thinner neck i've played with, but it fits perfectly with the hand, don't know how to explain it; it simply feels and works perfect..!

Incessant Wake Indeed. I wasn't even that familiar with him until recently, when I decided to get a new guitar and bought myself one of these bad boys. I mean, obviously, I was familiar with Toto, but only because of "Africa", lol. I honestly never imagined that they would have such a monster lead guitarist. I went on to buy their first 5 albums (the "Original album classics" set), and I'm amazed at the excellent musicianship. Lukather is, hands down, one of the best. I was even more amazed to discover that he is one of the most sought-after session guitarists, and that he recorded the "Beat it" riff. Needless to say, all those facts made my purchase decision a very easy one. It is, hands down, my favorite guitar so far.

Luke is also a solo artist, you should check out his solo albums. Toto have also released their dates for playing the US this year, from June, if that's where you're from. Amazing live.

I remember the first time hearing Steve Lukather back in the late 70s, it was the first thing I noticed about him in Toto was Lukathers playing and his sound. I have followed Steve for the last 45 years since Toto came out with their first and was just blown away not only of Toto Steve's approach to playing the guitar, he is in my book the man. I think I have every Toto album and just about all of Lukathers solo cds love the way he plays.

The thing I love most about Luke is that I feel like I could actually sit down with him and play a little to get some pointers without feeling self-conscious about it. There is zero ego in him - just a regular guy that happens to be one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Paul Gilbert is like that, too, but Paul, as incredible as he is, doesn't have that sumptuous tone that Luke does. Luke could pick up one of those pink Amazon starter guitars and make it sound like a Stradivarius.

Steve is a cross between Eddie and Neal Shawn. Most well rounded musician ever. Dude played on everything back in the day , he did all the guitar stuff on beat it, and the thriller album was Steve lukather.

Steve's late 80s Mesa-Boogie/Bradshaw rack tone was the best lead tone ever. Nothing else sang like that. I wish he'd go back to it.

I like his tone now much better! I saw him play many times with that Bradshaw rack...way overkill! Now he plays thru a Bogner Amp with some pedals.

Luke is a guitar player`s guitarist. Since he was a young guitarist he was mentored by the great Larry Carlton and he was an aggressive student of the instrument and music theory. I have a Luke II and a Luke III exactly the same as the one on this video and they are fantastic instruments with a degree of care for details and perfect all-around, simply brilliant! They are not cheap but worth every penny. The transition pickups are truly awesome DiMarzio pieces of engineering. If you have the dough, go for one of them, you will know what effortless and comfortable playing feels like. Guitar playing is really hard on a crappy guitar, that is why 90% of people give up on it. Keep on rocking!

Prolific session player in the old days and always had a fantastic tone and feel (still does) Steve made lionel Ritchie's Running through the night stand out. I thought.. Who is playing that kickass solo... Who else.

1:07 to 1:10 impressed. He went from a straight squawky lead to a really full bodied cleaner lush rythemy sound when he playd off of that Sus chord and hit it really lightly beautiful guitar and superior technique. Nice analog delay settings too.

My kids are fighting over my Luke 1, the floyd rose blue beast.. When daddy dies.. who will take it.. Haha. I love this guitar and man I love Luke for giving joy to my life. He is something else!! I played the original Luke in the late 90's. It it one of the best playing guitars that I've ever played! So, I am sure this kicks ass as well. If you are in the market for a guitar in this price range, i suggest you should consider it. The only reason that I did not purchase it was because I ended up purchasing a Spector bass instead. You did not see that coming, did ya. I know, um, yeah, bass, whatever...It's all good! :)

Long live Luke I like the HSS better than the HH but that's my opinion EBMM makes the best instruments you are guaranteed to get quality,beauty,and amazing tones out of a Music Man instrument
