Steve Martin is actually a very good banjo player. He said once that he chose comedy over bluegrass because nobody ever said "Look at that banjo player in that Porsche!"
@IanOsmond Жыл бұрын
One of his lhes from his early standup was "Okay, now I know what you're thinking - this is just yet another one of those banjo-magic-comedy acts..." He basically thought of, and I think, still thinks of, himself as a vaudevillian at heart - get on stage and entertain people for five or ten minutes doing a combination of whatever you've got. Which is one of the reasons he has always worked well with the Muppets - Jim Henson's attitude was much the same, and that attitude still persists.

Actually, there is a change but it’s the same puppeteer that’s been at it since ‘90 & it’s none other than Steve Whitmire. And admittedly, yeah he actually sounded way closer to Jim Henson then than he did here, but now we have a completely wrong sounding Kermit and we can thank Brian Henson, Disney and Matt Vogel for that. He doesn’t sound like Steve or Jim, it’s actually a very unsettling change. Just get back another Jim Henson sound alike like ‘90s Steve Whitmire, and I’ll be fine. Sheesh...

@@jamiehudson2747 Steve Whitmire _was_ fired in 2016 but it's still him performing Kermit in _this_ video. As to what Steve did, apparently it was many things -- allegedly he wouldn't take an understudy, he bailed on a job for "union reasons", and I guess he was just difficult to get along with. The first one is what _really_ ticked off Brian Henson.

He is a man of many talents. Steve Martin is OK too

Only Jim Henson can show concentration on a puppet. Two of my favorite entertainers of all time. Thank you for posting!!

Jim Henson died 32 years ago. This video was made 9 years ago. Jim Henson was an incredible puppeteer but give credit to the actual puppeteers here.

I love the way they introduce Kermit as a real person

I can't believe Funny Or Die could do Muppet Dueling Banjos without managing to include any references to "squealing like a pig".

You don’t really want to scare the kiddos who come across this video now, do you? Yeah, I know it’s for adults, but ... still.

I adore Steve Martin. My favorite movie will always be Roxanne. The bar scene, but anything he is in, is great.

Steve Martin plays so good. Love to see him in person. Banjo music is nice. I don’t know why it’s not used more often. It’s a lost art almost.

I love Steve Martin; he's hilarious. His movie 'The Jerk' was awesome, as well as 'Bringin' Down the House' and the 'Father of the Bride' movies. But just about everything he does is good. This 'Dueling Banjos' piece is no exception. (And who doesn't love a good Muppet?)

Fun fact: Muppets usually play guitars and banjos strung left-handed because most muppeteers are right-handed and have their right hand operating the muppet's mouth.

Steve's always been a Bluegrass picker. He's lately expanding into playing clawhammer style banjo. That guy washes off more talent every morning in the shower than I will ever have!
