Some of the most incredible moments in rock / fusion history come from Steve Morse’s guitar & compositions.

Saw him several times with the Dregs in the late 70/early 80s. Jaw dropping. The first time I saw them it instantly changed my taste/appreciation for great musicians. He attended the U of Miami school of music in the early 70s and a couple of his classmates were Jaco Pastorius, Bruce Hornsby, and Pat Metheny. As noted in other comments he seemed like a nice guy who always had time for interviews or to just talk with fans.

Great guitarist and musician. Very different than RB, but that's what Deep Purple needed ... attempt with Tommy Bolin was great, but did not last for other reasons.
