On June 11, 2014 Steve Perry, The lead singer/songwriter for the band, Journey from 1978-1997, walked on stage for a third time after a 20 year absence. This took place during the encore at an EELS concert at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles, California.
Steve Perry came on Stage and sang four songs for the third time since his solo "Strange Medicine" Tour in 1994-1995. It's fantastic to see him in full confidence. He sings the EELS song "It's A Motherfucker". He then sings a new piece called "Only Sixteen" after a story about an old girlfriend. Steve then jumps into the Journey hit, "Open Arms". Steve then tells the story of and sings "Lights" with the original lyrics. Steve then tells a story of an old 16 years old love of his and then sings "Lovin', Touching', Squeezing'" before walking off the stage with E.

At 68 Steve doesn't need to scream and go high notes,he sounds just fine at a low and mellow range. Steve has had a lot of heartache and pain a few years ago(sickness,death). Give him a break for just being up there in public again. Luv u steve

I have seen this before, I don't think they realize that the one he dedicated. this song and loved very much was extremely ill and had died . He sang that song with such powerful emotions an d so beautifully to her, I can't help think she heard him singing it in heaven. wow, Steve Perry did an amazing job, how lucky this audience is to be there and having Him sing to them. Steve Perry still the best singer ever!!!

This man is a living legend! One of, if not the best, most versatile singers in the world! His voice was put through an ungodly amount of stress from years of touring (luckily he had the will power of self-preservation, or he may not be here today), is damn-near 70 years old AND can still serve that magical voice! I've loved his musical abilities for 2/3 of my life and, believe me, I'd do anything within my means to go see him sing today. Hard as it may be to accept, 30+ years have passed since he hit those "reach for the heavens" high notes. I don't expect it from him and neither should anyone else, for if Steve Perry can't match Steve Perry nobody can.

They absolutely know that they are watching history. That is why they are paying full attention and standing up OUT of their seats and not being DISTRACTED by screaming and making noise. They definitely not only applauded but gave him a STANDING OVATION throughout the performance. And I might add...he did almost an entire set.

TO STEVE PERRY: I hope you read this. You brought tears to my eyes, a lump in my throat and goose bumps on my arms watching you perform again.I'm 61 years old and don't have much time left on the earth. I am only one human being on this planet that has been fortunate enough to be born in the right time and era, to actually grow and follow, or in better words; journey with you and "JOURNEY." You have no idea what an inspiration and difference you have made in my life. I started drumming when I was 5. Started singing lessons in Jr. High.My goal was to be a rock & roll drummer. There was no era better than the 80's. I've followed your concerts every where I could possibly be. Anybody in this town of Twin Falls knows how dedicated I am to your music. My license plates even say Journey. I have emphysema now,can't sing anymore. Every year bands from all over play at a festival here.One band dedicated a "JOURNEY" song TO ME when they found out. I can drum to ALL or your songs( lick per lick), and have performed many on stage also. I know all the lyrics to your music. I love to sing, but wasn't stupid enough to think I could ever pass my voice off as you.Fact is NOBODY can,many try and come close but no cigar. At least they keep the band "JOURNEY" touring so many others can still enjoy and remember the wonderful songs written.When one persons music can reach another in such a way, it is truly A GIFT. Please Steve; I'm sure you've thought about not performing again.What ever the reason being, voice, age, time, critics,etc.Piss on it. We are all human, it's a part of growing old.Take it from me. When music is your whole life and your FORCED to stop by something physically. It sucks. So be reminded that a 61 year old dying man with emphysema once asked you from the bottom of his heart: WOULD YOU TO PLEASE PLAY FOR ME ONE LAST TIME STEVE ? hope your response would be, "AS LONG IS THERE IS ONE PERSON OUT THERE THAT WANTS TO SEE ME PERFORM I WILL" Thank You !

For the last week I have been OBSESSED with Steve Perry! All because my best friend from high school (we graduated in 1984) commented on a post I shared on FB about turning into a “small town girl” every time Journey comes on the radio no matter who u are! I have looked up any and all things Steve Perry and have stayed up til all hours of the morning watching interviews and listening to music. There is absolutely no other voice like Steve. Like you I am typing through tears after watching this show. I would LOVE to see him do a show! His voice brings such joy and so many memories to mind. He is truly loved and missed.

I've spent a small fortune going back to buy everything he has recorded . from solo to when he was with journey. I'd give anything to meet this man. I feel like taking a plane to California to try to find him so I could meet him before I leave this world. I just love this man. This man would pack every venue with faithful fans who, like me, would crawl across hot coals on their knees even if it was to hear him sing the alphabet, backwards and in Portuguese...because he is so crazy talented! It's not just that we love his voice, we love how hearing it makes our hearts love deeper and our sorrows feel sweeter...Seeing him last night at the HOF induction made me smile...I wish him joy and peace whether he sings another note publicly or not. God bless Steve!💜

Steve in his prime (and I still love the way he sounds now) however in his prime he was the best male singer in history of song - for range, pitch, tone, and emotion. Freddy was also incredible, however, the other members of queen harmonized with Freddie to get that great distinctive queen sound, both great legends of music. Steve's on the end of "why can't this night go on forever", says it all just listen...at 68 he is aging really good as well. God bless him, can;t wait to hear the new stuff.

Awesome as always Steve! Expected nothing less even after all these years. Your voice sounded as beautiful and in shape as it ever was. One of the best entertainers and showmen in the business then and now. Always a professional. Truly a golden voice like yours is a gift from God! Never "hide your light under a bushel" let it shine as you did this night. Love you

I wonder if the younger people or if anyone in this audience even realizes what an amazing opportunity it was to have Mr. Steve Perry bless them with his amazing appearance let alone his amazing, angelic one-of-a kind voice! They were so fortunate to hear him sing again. I'd give anything even to hear his voice on the phone!!! Please call me Steve! I love you yesterday, today and forever and eternity! God bless you!

Steve Perry has still got it I like Arnel too but Steve is Journey...
@kmac2957
@kmac2957 2 жыл бұрын
Steve Perry is FAR better than Arnel ever was or could ever hope to be. Arnel sounds good, but he's far from any level Perry has ever been, then and now. Arnel doesn't put any real effort into the lyrics anymore. If you watch him sing from when he started with Journey, he has a good sound, but he clips so many of the lyrics now. Listen to him perform the songs they did in the R&R Hall of Fame induction. He left so much to desire that it was sad, as the rest still sounded great. Arnel seemed like he was just doing the bare minimum, because he certainly created no special memories that night for himself to be revered as a great front man like Steve Perry was for 20 years and is again. It should've been Steve singing those songs with Journey that night. Steve even thanked Arnel in his speech. I may sound harsh, but I had just listened to an '86 Journey concert that Steve Perry did while having the flu or something in Tokyo just before listening to Arnel's R&R HoF performances in 2017. Arnel was there but not anywhere near being a front man, already way short of his performances from just nine years before in 2008. Perry was still fantastic after 20 years. Arnel is a singer, but he was never Steve Perry, and he's gotten lazy as the years have gone by. Like someone else said, if Perry would be the front man again, Journey would have sold out concerts right now because there is no voice that sells those songs like Steve Perry. He IS Journey's ONLY front man because those pipes of his -- no matter how mature -- and the heart he uses with them, are unmatched. Deen, their drummer for a short time, was the only singer who compelled similar emotions with his voice, but drugs were not his friend. There's a YT video comparing the others to Perry. Watch it and you'll hear Deen. Steve Perry is most definitely Journey, Patrick. I agree on that. He can still sing to me any time.

I don't care how he sounds, it's good enuf for me just to see that goofy dance/strut and the soulful sway again. Plus, he's saved his voice for 20 years while on sabbatical! Do it bro...

Me too, but never idolize famous people. It's kind of weird and scary to them. Say nice to meet you, I really like your work, then talk about everyday things, like weather or your love of cars or something else. Don't bring your 6 foot airbrushed paintings. Those are the fans that stars try to avoid...

The incomparable Steve Perry. I think it's wonderful he made the decision to perform again. Doesn't sound like he has the register that he used to in this video, but no one at 65 sounds the same that they did 30-40 years ago. Or maybe just needs practice. He still has a beautiful voice! A voice that millions of his fans would surely to pay to still see. Hope he does some new music. His real fans don't care about octaves.
