You guys are freaking killing me....I have stuff to get done and you hit me with STEVE RUDE interview? I can't not watch this immediately. This mirrors what you did to me with the Matt Wagner video. While you guys are at it, see if you can get Jamie Delano, Peter Milligan, John Byrne, Bob Burden and Dave Sim....I'll just take week's vacation.

Thanks for doing this interview! Steve comes across as much more of the thoughtful creative genius I’ve always imagined than how he came across in the Rude Dude documentary a decade ago. Admittedly, he said that was a tumultuous time in his life, so it’s gratifying seeing him doing much better and creating more Nexus! 🤘😎⚡️

Love the shoot interviews, especially from the elder statesmen/women of the industry and more specifically from the independent creators. Is the Wendy and Richard Pini interview still in the pipeline?

Thanks, guys! Once again you’ve made my Sunday morning for me! Steve always inspires and impresses me with his work ethic! I’ve been reading Nexus since May of 1983 and The Coming of Gormando trade was my favorite book and still is! Page turning , Nexus and his supporting characters are never predictable always interesting and definitely worth the wait to dive into! I encourage everyone to read Nexus and all of Steve’s incredible work! I hope he gets the green light on Nexus Animated Series!❤️🙏🎯 Keep reading and making comix!👍😎👋

Love Rude’s art! For as much adoration he gets, I think he’s still underrated. I also appreciate his directness. I asked him at a con years ago when Nexus hadn’t been published for a while when it was going to come out again. He told me he didn’t like Baron’s writing on the story they were working on (not just that he didn’t like it, but that it wasn’t good). It was shocking that he would tell a fan that. But I respect his dedication to quality. He’s not going to publish it just for money.

Many thanks for this interview. Nexus is one of my favorite comic series ever. There's no nostalgia here as I started reading it a year ago (and I'm almost 40 now). The way the story and characters evolve, the number of topics, real (worldwide) issues covered there along with that stunning art of Steve makes me say "Wow!" 💪

THE DUDE!!!!! Kudos to Steve for his wariness of the internet search rabbit hole, he’s exactly right. It toggles our dopamine until we can’t remember what we were searching for, and triggers the stress chemical oxytocin when we try to stop. The same reason people can’t stop playing gambling machines. Yikes.

Jesus…the walk through and his perspective on a multitude of things were mind blowing. Him just having like all these insanely beautiful top tier artist studies on the go at once, all while teaching himself to animate in an analog fashion, while making comics is staggering.

This is a man who, talent-wise, was at the pinnacle of his profession and was offered the X-Men (plus he undoubtably could have named which book he wanted to work on at The Big Two) but turned that down. Wow. You couldn't begrudge any artist for accepting that job if put in the same situation, and the fact he wanted nothing to do with it says all we need to know about his character. I'd love to have a beer with this man.

Two of the many takeaways I had while watching this: 1. I really need to give Nexus a shot. To my knowledge I haven't read any of it. 2. Seeing his studio, and his line about oil painting, really makes me appreciate traditional art and reinforces some of my criticisms of natively digital art (don't get me started on AI).

This is something I love about Steve...he is not afraid to show the hard parts, the parts where he struggled, the parts where he might have even been clueless. He is not afraid to show early work...I have always felt showing early work is important, to try to democratize art to some degree at least. Everyone sucked at some point. A big reason why I do my fanzine column, Ink Stains, too....to show all our favorite artists younger years.

Steve if you’re reading this: are you familiar with Javier Pulido? He sights you as one of his biggest Influences, though his work has become more graphic and simplified, I wondered if you see the connection especially how you show motion through figures?

The thing he said about artists who get worse after 20 years of great work is quite interesting. This happened to Uderzo, co-creator of Asterix, where from the mid/late 70s onward the art in every issue got worse and worse until the series's frankly depressing end in the 00s. Curious what examples he had in mind, though.

Great interview. Did I hear him say Drew Struzan is in declining health? Because that’s terrible news. Interesting bit about Toth. Wouldn’t remember me but Rude was my table neighbor at my first con (Chicagocon) I was a bit shell shocked during that whole convention. Al Williamson would have been on the other side of me but he was a no show.
