Interviewer-- So you play guitar for a few stars, for the last 4 or 5 centuries"... Steve-- Well, if you're talking about 4 DECADES"... Didn't make fun of him with that gargantuan mistake, had a smile on his face to show the camera that he's actually listening to what the interviewer is asking, says only one thing about Steve Vai-- FUCKING CLASS ACT !

I saw Steve do a solo in Phila. for David Lee Roth, he went into a solo and fell on the floor like Hendrix , playing the solo I looked up at the camera monitor and Steve was puking while playing the solo. Maybe he was drunk, maybe he had the flu. I dont know but it was cool !

Over the years, I have found Steve Vai to be a 'virtuoso" of guitar players. He is a perfectionist, but somehow he didn't have the press marketers many of the rock bands had. Everyone, especially the young crowd likes the fancy and the flashy. SV studies his craft to perfection.

@j_freed

Yeah. If you are a good interview subject you listen for what would actually be a good answer, rather than be too much of a bitch about the question. Politicians do this when they don't like to answer directly. Entertainers do this to provide better content than the question alone permits.

Stevie Vai is such a masterful guitarist. Not taking away from any great guitarist out there but Vai creates alot of instumental work. Not alot of air play but it's what he does. My guitar hero, Jeff Beck, paved the way for instrumental rock guitar. Beck could have joined a rock band and made a fortune but didn't want that. The Rolling Stones wanted Beck years ago.

They play similar you can see Joes been the biggest influence on Steve yet they are unique. I noticed that Satriani never does Finger tapping and Vais an absolute master. Steves amazing my favorite of the 2 comes down to one song and Flying In A Blue Dream By JS I have to this day never heard something so emotional ever.
