This the epitome of great art. Melancholic and soaring In a flinch. Thanks to John Hall for the composition! Sublime

Only a few people in this world can play an instrument and a blind man could say who it was playing it. Earl Scruggs, Floyd Cramer and most definitely Chet Atkins. Absolutely beautiful song Steve, thanks for sharing. I remember my grandmother playing Chet early in the morning for us.

Mark Knopfler is pretty distinct. Your list is pretty right on though

Sails; was one of my favorites alum’s ever; Country, jazz. Yea Mark Knopfler was outstanding but Steve is every bit as beautiful a guitar player as shown here. I miss the New Nashville Cats sound, glad Mark O’Connor and Albert Lee are still around. Country Jazz has evaporated, since started by Jerry Reed and Chester, and progressed by Tony Rice. Pat Metheny now sustains me for guitar, but curious what Steve is up to.

On his latest "Sunday String Along" (4/30/2023) Steve's good friend and fellow finger-style virtuoso Doyle Dykes alludes to this oh-so-memorable tune. Just left Doyle this note: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oNFmq9Kps7XclI0.html "Beginning around the 5:15 mark Doyle plays the most beautiful rendition of IT IS WELL (with my soul) that I have ever heard. Don't you love the look of peace that descends on his face when Doyle Dykes plays a favorite hymn on perhaps his favorite guitar. Love that at around the 8:35 mark Doyle 'quotes' the refrain of an obscure but unforgettable melody Chet Atkins recorded in 1987 for one of his first albums for Columbia Records. A 70's song called SAILS - composed by a then- husband and wife songwriting team - John & Johanna Hall - for the group 'Orleans' (they had a major hit, “Dance With Me” - another song Chet loved). Steve Wariner recorded his version of Sails the summer of 1993 (and sang the song's poignant, seldom-heard lyric). Search for "Sails" and there are two of Doyle Dykes' good friends on a duet that I hadn't seen before. Really, is there anything you can't find at KZfaq? Thanks for sharing Steve Wariner. My wife and I saw your concert here in Winnipeg two decades ago and to this day it is the best 'live' performance by a country artist we ever attended. Celebrated elsewhere [search] " Great Melody, Great Lyric, Great Rendition, Songwriting Workshop, Harmony Central "
