Jonesy listens more than he talks. We all like that! 🙂

Absolutely. When he does talk he asked insightful questions. He is in the moment. He plays great tracks on the radio in between interviews also.

Wow, it's well over 50 years since I first heard "I'm a Man" and now I get to hear an interview with Steve Winwood. He comes across as a straight-ahead no-nonsense musician, convincing in his observations, yet when I hear his music there's a whole other dimension. Feeling and artistry with total conviction.

Love "Big girls walk away", classic track from his Talking back to the night classic album! And you can hear every bit of Ray charles's style of singing in Steve's voice in Steve's early years and ive never heard anybody that could immuliate Ray's voice as good as Steve, incredible! Perfect example is the track "Pearly queen" from the 1st album of Traffic ive ever heard which the self titled one. Powerful and classic performance of Ray's own vocal style by Steve on "Pearly queen"!!! And always interesting to hear how he was influenced by Ray as he mentioned in this interview. Steve's contribution to the music world has been nothing short of being simply amazing!!!!

Nice interview from another of the myriad men of that name. :-) I've been a Winwood fan since I was 14 or 15. First time I remember hearing him was the song "Strong Love" on the radio - unforgettable voice. Keep on Running was the first single I bought. I soon became a wee bit jealous though because my first two girlfriends were both besotted with him. That soon gave way not so much to envy as to amazement at his multiple gifts. Thank you for all the great music, Steve W.

Man I love this! To hear him talk about Traffic being a "niche" band vs his popularity rising in the 80's and people accusing him of selling out, well all I can say is give another listen to Higher Love and you'll hear that it's just pure soul. He said that he's essentially living off of Traffic and boy did he earn it. He has given us so much amazing music, his vocals and piano are among the best of progressive rock, and John Barleycorn Must Die never fails to give me chills with its gorgeous harmonies. Musical genius and down to earth man, that is a true legend.

I saw with Traffic in 70' Wood, Capaldi, Winwood. It was a great concert, of thousands during that era, one of the top five. Winwood, the lone survivor. Along with Levon Helm, the great white singers of that era. Capaldi was under rated. That I know more about Winwood's vocal work than a professional radio man must mean he made a name somewhere else. Never heard of him.

Maybe, but Steve Winwood isn't generally this talkative in interviews, he tends to have difficulty/may be reluctant about expressing himself in the compressed amount of time usually allowed. If you've watched other interviews or clips with Winwood you may notice how much more of his thoughts and reflections about his own life that he reveals here in a comparatively shorter time. I'll definitely be looking for more interviews by Steve Jones.
