Күн бұрын

Various jingles, characters, sketches and talky bits from Steve Wright in the Afternoon, lifted straight from some old cassettes. These recordings date from around October 1989.

RIP Steve. I remember listening to his radio shows back in the 1980s to the present day. Brilliant and as has already been commented. No internet, no mobiles, no social media, absolute heaven. The good old days of a much much simpler life never to return. So sad but so glad I lived my 20s through that period of history. Thanks for the memories Steve.

Factoid: Steve Wright brightened up many a dull weekday afternoon for me in the office in the early 1990's with the banter, jingles, tunes, factoids and array of zany characters / impressions, plus he introduced me to the work of The Jerky Boys too - well worth checking out. Loved Sid The Manager and Phil Cornwell doing Mick Jagger and Bowie. No doubt he brightened up many other peoples otherwise dreary working days too. RIP Steve.

Brilliant stuff, I've been listening to as much of ole Steve Wright in the afternoon that I can find on youtube, popping it all on a long playlist & driving along to it. So inventive, the silly jingles, nutty charachters, silly noise played over records, mis pronoucing words on purpose, the posse, Mr Angry, Sid the manager & Damien the social worker. Even as he slowed down hi Radio 2 shows were still always something to look forward to on a long drive in the afternoon. Now it's all done, RIP Steve Wright, you were brill! (That's wright!)

There simply was nobody like him on the radio. It was totally different to everyone else. Excellent music and top guests but even more to me, were the bonkers of the characters and sketches. Hilarious. BBC treated you badly in the end, just to virtue signal and tick a box. You were one of a kind. Condolences to your family. RIP Steve and thank you from the bottom of my heart for the joy you brought to so many of us from when we were teenagers in the 80s who grew up with you into the seriousness of adult life.

A sad day for radio, it was bad enough when Simon Mayo left the drive-time slot, but no Steve Wright and I'll likely stop listening to Radio 2 now. There's very little to smile about in the world right now-2022/sky high petrol/energy bills/food/war in Ukraine... Radio 2 couldn't have picked a worse time to cancel him! The world needs Steve Wright's special brand of Britishness! His being cancelled is yet another disaster in a long list of woes for the UK 😢 xxx
